A few thoughts:

- Loading charts on separate tabs will keep them in memory and make it near instant as you switch between them
- You can load instruments in a Market Analyzer but the trick is to add an indicator column using the data series as input that you would load on your chart. So if you always opening a 5 minute chart, add an indicator column in the MA that uses 5 minute bars. Doing this puts the 5 minute series into RAM for every instrument loaded in the MA, as you open a chart for that instrument, the chart will load the bars from memory which is instant. This is independent of indicator calculation load, if you have calculation intensive indicators, there is no way around other than having them loaded on tabs.

you know I tried that before (pre-loading in the market anaylzer) but I never could notice any improvement . Even though it definitely was not the calculation that took the time when switching but the loading because you could see the chart say "data loading..." after switch a linked instrument. That was with different chart setups than now.

Also it is not just the ram thing, it does get annoying to switch tabs on all charts to match up to the same instrument... not really making it much faster than loading via linking instead. If you had one chart window it is not a problem but I have several.

It is possible that the "Loading..." text could still be present during indicator calculation. Loading of data in a chart that is currently in RAM is instant. That said, if your search for an alternate does not bear fruit, I am happy to help you understand your work space and find ways to optimize it.

while I have your attention, could you add a feature request to show the ram usage in the utilization monitor window... not just ms.. that would be great. I mean of each thing being tracked there.

hello, ninja trader support

can you point me to a video that shows switching of instruments on an orderflow volumetric bars chart? I'm curious how fast that would be.

I mean say a market watch or analyzer linked to a chart of delta volumetric bars and then clicking on the instrument in the market analyzer or watch just so i can see how long it takes to switch to a new instrument on them. I'd try it myself but I don't have access to those chart types.

I'm especially curious to see if they are a native bar type or if they are just drawn on top of the bars, the way I can see with some 3rd party plugins that offer such volumetric bars.

Volumetric bars are native bar types in NinjaTrader.

Here is the video you requestd - https://www.screencast.com/t/rBopoGoggp

In the past I’ve tried numerous platforms and I always circle back to Tradestation.

I like to be able to switch around as well and I am new to NT8, but I found that one of their new features works better for me than tabs. I set up the markets I want to watch in Market Watch over on the side of my workspace. Then I link Market Watch to three different charts, all of which have at least some indicators on them. Now, maybe my indicators are pretty simple and don't hog RAM, but I've found switching between instruments real easy with this setup. Even nicer is that if I change a chart or add an indicator, I only have to change one chart, not seven.

I know you said you were looking for another platform, but I thought I'd add my 2 cents worth since this feature had not been mentioned in the thread (I don't think so, anyway).

Good luck

well you explained the main reason why i wanted to switch and tabs weren't good enough. I have multiple charts with the same instrument.

however, i'm not using those templates anymore that were taking longer to load but really the big secret with ninjatrader is if you use charts based on time data it is fast, if the bars are somehow constructed from tick data everything takes longer to load.
