Very interesting. Do you use strickly unirenko bars, then? I don't know much about those specifically, but I have played around a little with renko. Never got quite comfortable with them to be honest, but I'm not finished with my studies. I have been meaning to check out unirenko.

I will see if I can dig up your old thread.

Best regards and thanks.

I find the dark charts are usually easier to see.
That is funny because I used black background charts for a long time but i currently use light background charts.

The reason...
It takes less printer ink. LOL
Also it publishes clearer when I publish charts or try to view them later.

So now almost all of my charts are light colors.
I use custom indicators and bar types so this may not be of any value to you but I will post them anyway.
These are two of my most used charts on my desktop for trading.

I've had both of those thoughts many times.

Also, I found that I couldn't really stand the default NT8 Slate Gray skin, which makes everything a dark gray background, including dialog boxes, menu dropdowns and the NT code editor. I particularly couldn't stand reading/writing code with white text against a dark background, for some reason....

So I switched to the Light skin, and then made the chart backgrounds black, and changed the other elements so I could read them (text on charts couldn't be black, etc.) The change to my eye strain (or at least to my annoyance level ) was immediate.

Different strokes for different folks....

Bob.

also with the light skin, you can use the gradient brush for coloring the bars. if using the slate gray, some custom programming would be required

I'm just now getting into NT8, being both a little conservative and a little chicken.

I'm sure there are many more hidden delights and unexpected gotchas ahead....

Nice charts, guys.

People may bash Ninja (and maybe even rightfully so at times), but those charts sure are beautiful.

Having spent most of my time for the last years studying data in tables, I look forward to playing around a bit with charts again...

Does anyone know for sure which is better for the eyes? Black or white/light grey charts? Is it merely a matter of preference?

I'm finding reference to some studies when searching around and the consensus seems to be that black text on a white background (like this post I'm writing) is easier for the eyes than white text on a black background.

But, this isn't quite the same situation as say black/white background with the same colored candles...

don't think you can tell for sure which is better. but you could look at it this way too:

- when reading a book, the background is normally light with a dark text
- high quality websites like futures.io. light background with dark text

anyway for me it's just a personal preference

All my charts have a black background because my monitor has retina-searing brightness and no way to turn it down. I go for what's comfy since I spend so much time in front of the screen.

I don't think there is a definite, objective difference... just try them.

I have found that I like text in black letters on white background, as in a book, but I also prefer charts to be colors on a black background.

All you would have to do is set them up one way and then another, any way you like actually, and save each layout as a template. You can then instantly switch your charts from one to another, or compare side-by-side. See what you like more.

I do find the black chart more restful, but then I can't stand the dark background on a text page. One's a picture, and one's reading, I guess. It seems different, to me. Go figure.

Bob.
