I have choice to make about platforms, I am currently familiar with NT 6.5 but I have no particular love for it. Progrmming in C# is beyond me at this point, but I can make strategies using the wizard native to NT. There are many features in NT that I like, but I just had a week of hands on with TradeStation and it is an excellent platform as well. My broker, Infinity Futures, recommends E Signal since I will be using TransAct to clear the trades. I will be using their AT platform for live trading and ESignal for strategies and possible automation. Interestingly, they recommend not using TradeStation, said is was finicky.
I am a bit new to all of this and if I am going to put time into getting up to speed on a new platform I want to make a good choice. I would like Big Mike's forum's opinion on this.

Thank you,

John

John,

I don't like TradeStation, but I do use MultiCharts, which is basically TradeStation on steroids. I used Ninja for a long, long time but felt I outgrew it in many ways. There is no need repeating what has already been said in the other thread about NinjaTrader here, and the other thread about MultiCharts here.

As for eSignal, I used their data with NT for a brief time, but I never really seriously considered their charting platform, so I can't speak to that.

I would say that, for me personally, C# is not needed to be profitable. Advanced is not better in this case. EasyLanguage lets me do all I need to do for my simple indicators, and enough power in strategies to do all I need to do on the side as a hobby for automated strategies.

To me, I prefer simple, fast, stable over complex. Even if means fewer features, if you think about what is actually important in making money, it's probably not bells and whistles but instead stability, consistency, reliability, etc. That said, each person chooses their platform based on how well it fits their needs.

Someone doing market profile might choose MarketDelta for instance. Some choose Ensign for their drawing tools. Some choose Ninja for its large indicator base. It will be based on your own style and what is important to you.

Mike

Choosing a trading platform is one of the most difficult things in life (after choosing a car and a wife that is....)

MetalTrade,
Agreed!
That is the value of opinions from a group such as this.

It will also depend on whether you want to LEASE or OWN. I prefer to own on the condition that I continue to receive upgrades.

Leasing is not a bad option, especially if you think you may not be satisfied with your choice later on.

eSignal does not allow automated trading. You can write code to the charts, which is Java based. If you clear through transact, you don't pay exchange fees, only pay the eSignal fee.

I feel that Big Mike is right, and would only add one thing. Beware of the influence of the Trading Platform you choose to " Dictate " the " Trading Style " that you steer towards !!!.
