Thank you everyone for the responses, really helpful to get some recent data points. Does anyone know ballpark how many users MC has? NT says they have 40,000 traders using their platform, which sounds strangely low considering their active community. Also, is NT's software stability still an issue in the latest version? UmBillyCord, you mentioned the application freezing - how often does that happen?

NinjaTrader is stable. That being said, it is a very well known fact that poorly coded scripts can affect NinjaTrader performance. This is because our product provides native run time of C# scripts which gives our users the highest level performance when compared to competitive products. The downside is what was stated before, a bad script can have adverse impact. We decided long ago that the "juice was worth the squeeze".

Independent of bad scripts, if NinjaTrader had performance issues I am quite sure we would not be widely used.

I have intermediate trading experience, but am not an expert programmer, so I was drawn to MC because of the simpler syntax of EL/PL vs. NinjaScript.

I've been programming for 30+ years and have been using MC over NT for the past 5 years as I found it easier/faster to implement strategies rather than spend time with OO "overhead". I converted quite a few NT indicators & strategies to EL and the amount of code required was generally about a third of the original so there's that as well. Community-wise, futures.io (formerly BMT) is definitely NT-centric which is fine - I've pretty much "graduated" at this point anyway having read most of what I've found pertinent to the way I trade though something new and shiny shows up from time to time (e.g. machine learning) that will pique my interest .

As for MC customer service, I've probably used it (online chat) 7 or 8 times and they've always been courteous, professional and immensely helpful. The platform isn't perfect - no platform is. I too would love if there were "ruler" support, better multi-core/multi-threaded backtesting support, built-in debugger (NT has a definite edge there being able to leverage Visual Studio), etc. but am still quite happy I went with the lifetime MC license thus far (especially now that it also supports Oanda).

My .02,
-Guy

In one sense you can think of it like this..... NinjaTrader is like Nikon..... MultiCharts like Canon...... NinjaTrader is like a Windows base machine.....MultiCharts is like a Apple base machine......IMHO

MultiCharts can be thought of as Metastocks big bother in my view....Ninjatrader like Formula 1 race car....MultiCharts like a Corvette or Maserati etc

I think it's more like Multicharts is for traders that want to trade, not spend years learning to be a programmer, Ninja is for programmers that enjoy trading...

Pay someone lol. But I have to say knowing how to program certainly kicks ass, it's like being in the matrix and you see the girl in the red dress everywhere and you scoff at the plebs who have to do repetitive work when you can oh so easily automate their life's work in a heart beat. Am I evil? Probably.

Anyhow off topic, unless you are programing some seriously complex algo I doubt you would run into problems.

Also would be interesting to see if an MC rep pops up to try get your business, if not...
