Looking for users who use MetaStock and are willing to share why they like or dislike it. I joined this forum hoping to find many MetaStock users and share ideas, but have much trouble finding them.
Hopefully this thread can bring a few together.

IMO, the good thing about MS is the filtering part, custom indicator builder and explorer and the chart view is also good. Metastock forum also assists in building explorer/ indicator formulas.
Also, I thought of learning how to do backtesting in metastock. Do you do that? If yes, do share some tips on how to go about it. What filters do you use for stocks?
My main interest in MetaStock is their back testing. I learned how to do it by watching a video or two. If this is what you’re asking, I’ll try to find the links to those videos. I already downloaded them, but the files are too big for sharing.
I back tested almost all the preloaded systems and found the Equis-Momentum Indicators –Expert System gives pretty good results. Here is how I came to that conclusion. I chose all the pre-loaded expert systems and ran all of them against the Nasdaq stocks . It took a while. The MACD and the Momentum looked the best to me. Now MACD has a bit of a lag, so I dropped it and went for the Momentum ones. What I don’t like about them is they are 4 (CCI, RSI, Stochastic, MACD) and the system can use any of them depending on circumstance. However when you ran them against all Nasdaq stocks you find plenty of stocks that respond well to it.
But I want to create my own system and would like to have it around the Stochastic oscillator. Even if I borrow elements from an existing system, I want to modify it and add my own ideas. I’m an RC model airplane hobbyist and I build my own models, I don’t buy ready-made ones. Same about trading, I want to create my own system. But it’s very time consuming and I’m not even close yet.
I don’t like the charts in MetaStock mainly because you cannot have a list with several charts that’s easy to scroll up and down. I use stockcharts.com for charts. For $20/month you can have your custom chart lists and you can see them in 10 charts/page, it’s so easy to scroll through them.
I don't use MetaStock for filters as I don't have a system that I follow yet.
MetaStock always worked fine on my computer. I had version 11 and then 12. My only complaint about it was the difficulty to flip through the charts in a list. A friend showed me TC2000 from Worden and I fell for it instantly. It's ages ahead of MetaStock when it comes to ease of use. I bought it.
Hey.. Metastock is not very advance.. My father is using it since 2000 but i never found it worthy.. Amibroker is much more advance and is more flexible too... And is pretty much capable of doing what metastock does and rather do much more than that.
How do you compare the Metastock-RT to the Ninjatrader-8 regarding analysis and TA, Aren't all things that Metastock-RT is doing, have a simpler way to do it in Ninjatrader-8? Also, the data for NT8 is mostly possible to get for free and it can manage orders as well and run an EA/AI?
I'm looking to buy either of these and looking for a recommendation. I should mention, I prefer IB as a broker to use the NT8 alongside it.
