Question concerning eSignal charting capabilities

Hello there.

This isn't really a big deal question, I just need it confirmed for myself. And I thought I'd get a more diverse and objective answer here. I'm sure the capabilities are present. Like I said I would just feel better if someone said, 'Yes, and so much more.' I don't doubt the so much more, its just that I need my charting app to be able to do this one thing for me first. All other considerations are secondary.

I wish to learn to trade based on price action alone. So that is the path I have chosen. That means I sit and look at charts. I like the plane Jane white (or off white) background, white (hollow) up candles and black down candles and the chart maximized with precious little in the way of other controls that just waste your screen space with buttons and icons that are rarely used.

But even that isn't the most important. I have eight monitors, or soon will have. I have four now and two on a second computer. I need and want to be able to place four charts on each monitor. All different instruments, same time frame most likely. But also I like four charts on a monitor organized as pairs of instruments in two time frames. And of course the way that the charting app does this is the most important. It is no good having to size each chart and then individually place that chart on a monitor and then do that for each chart. That would be ludicrous. I don't know the best way that this might be able to be done. I sort of envision four charts in a tab that opens in it's specific monitor. All the charts on that monitor could be configured from that tab and all the tabs could be controlled together. Default settings and stuff like that so it'd be easy to make them all look the same. Something like that.

These seem like prerequisite capabilities to me but you never know. Currently I am not signed up to any provider and use no charting app so I don't really know what's out there. Instead I have been happy using NetStation and ChartStation (free from NetDania), which I have configured on two computers and four monitors into four charts on each monitor with separate instruments. In my case I watch gold and silver on one computer and a basket of eight pm mining stocks on the other computer. Then I use eSignal LiveCharts with one stock in six different time frames of the stock that I am trading. Its kind of cumbersome as you can imagine and LiveCharts doesn't offer very much. I'd like to put it all under one control, and I'd like to explore more of the features of the app as well. And then I have the order entry screen from my Canadian broker. Which also gives me a chart and aa price ladder. That's it. We live in the last century up here so options are difficult to come by when it comes to trading. Which brings up another question that I'll leave for another time.

Thanks a bunch for any responses. Good or bad opinions welcomed.

Not the hottest topic here huh?

I should have named the thread 'Got any comments on the multi monitor features and capabilities of eSignal charting software.'

I guess not a lot of people look at charts on all the monitors. If more people did, there'd likely be comments. And probably a subforum on the topic. And software readily available.

I'm likely going to sign up for eSignal in a month or so since I already use LiveCharts. I wish I had 20 monitors. I know mostly the consensus is less is more. And I agree with that. But when it comes to charts. One chart on each monitor and software that would allow me to easily change them and group them until I was satisfied - that would be my preference.

Well I signed up for eSignal. Petty good. Not bad. I guess when all you want are the bare charts there isn't a whole lot to talk about. But eSignal doesn't handle multiple charts per monitor IMO in any favorable or useful manner. But I still have my NetDania gold and silver charts and on the rest of the monitors I use single charts. And it is convenient to flip through charts using pages.

eSignal does seem to be lacking some charting tools that I would have expected. Simple things like just being able to draw a finite horizontal line. You have to use a trend line and make it horizontal. Not ideal. No measured move capability. A horizontal line from one time frame on an instrument can't automatically be shown on a second chart in a different time frame for the same instrument. And I wouldn't mind if I could mark up a chart on one page as part of a group and show that same chart ( same instrument, same time frame) with the same markup in a different group as part of a different page. These things would be useful to me.

That's about it. For now.

I added ensign charting to my subscription to increase charting capabilities. At first I was tickled that ensign could handle 4 charts in a monitor, and that is a decent feature. But other than that I don't think that either esignal or ensign offer good features for what in my opinion would be basic drawing tools. I think ensign's tools are pretty much unusable. Just to open the properties page requires a 3 - 4 second wait, then the little circle appears, which shows for another 3 - 4 seconds, then finally the properties page flickers and causes all the other charts to flicker and shudder and finally the properties page appears. Horizontal lines from the chart on which they were created appear on another chart and another instrument. Charts are misplaced. When opening full screen charts at least one of the charts always overlap another monitor. And on. But since I don't really change my charts when trading, I just sit there and look at the S/R lines on my charts and wonder what I am going to do, I'll keep my subscription for a while but I'll probably try another combination in the future. Just sayin' that's all.

Have you been able to get eSignal to plot range bar charts?

8 monitors sounds awesome... how do you track them all? I have four on one compute and 2 on another and sometimes I just don't look at the smaller ones.
