When I look at the sight, it seems the majority of people trading are on NT .. and the support is there, I have tried both in sim, using Xtrader now with some mixed results ... in the end I am looking for an edge and some input into why others have made the choice to NT

thanks

I would first start off with these basic questions:

Are you trading mainly using the DOM? (xtrader is superior)
Are you trading other's accounts? (xtrader is superior)
Are you using iceberg orders/other order capabilities that ninja does not have? (xtrader is more advanced in this area)
Have you tested ninja? (its free to test, so I would strongly encourage you to do this)
Does ninja do all that you need? (charting, order entry/management, etc.)

Then I would finally ask, can you justify the 675 per month for xtrader?

xtrader is nice, but I couldn't justify the cost per month for the functions I was using. Most of the functions that xtrader has over ninja I was not making use of.

XTrader is great for placing and managing orders, but its charting is very limited. One could say "primitive".

I trade using the DOM
no others accounts
I am testing Ninja right now and I like it so far ..
the cost is a little much for Xtrader though I get a "free" version to use at Velocity futures .. at a higher commission rate
I also like the charting on ninja much much better

thanks for your input

Steve

I like looking at the DOM as well. To get the look (it doesn't have all the same features) as x trader you can try this: Learning to Trade the Order Book (Software) ~ The 1Lot Trader (someone else on the forum found that. it has everything that I want to look at on the DOM). You have to load a 1 tick chart on the instrument you want to run it on (I overlooked that part of the instructions at first).

For charting, ninja is definitely the way to go.

Xtrader dom looks good with the volume levels on the ladder. I believe this is included in NT8 - when ever it gets out that is :-) For me the key feature is that. Otherwise both do have oco which I also use. And for charting I'll use something else eg Investor RT.

Is trader worth paying for xtrader? Depends.. But my advise is to trial whatever your broker provides to see for yourself.. Plus over the years you want to be agile enough to switch platforms generally anyway rather than sticking with one firm. Don't want to put all your eggs in one basket.

Good luck.

I used X trader for more than 10 years and I used their auto spreader as well. It is very expensive.

Last 1-1/2 year I have been using Ninja and really liking it. I like the fact that you can purchase it and don't have a reoccurring expense. However, on Feb 1 I quit using Ninja for execution because my system was locking up in busy times. Hence, now I have charts thru Ninja and I execute trades thru CTS. I am very happy with this set up.

Obviously you can really take advantage of what is on this Forum (and 3rd party vendors) with Ninja while you are very limited with TT.

I hope TT (X-trader) is cheaper now....I think it is way too expensive.
