Hello,

I was wondering if anybody knew of any market simulators that allowed options on futures. I tried thinkorswim but it wouldn't allow options on futures. Any help would be much appreciated.

I use thinkorswim for research and testing for options on futures. It works well. What do you mean with 'wouldn't allow options on futures'?

Sorry I forgot to mention it was a papermoney account. I would try to place an option on a gold future but I would get rejected. The notification would say that this account was unable to place options on futures.

If you are looking for live data then try CQG Trader. They also follow SPAN margins, so it would help in terms of knowing your margins.

Thank you,

Yes, TOS papermoney apparently doesn't allow placing options on futures, only options on equity. I only use TOS realtime data, chart, greeks, IV mostly for research, checking margin, testing, not for practice trading.

I think Interactive Brokers' TWS provide paper trading for practicing your strategy including futures options but you must open account first with them if I'm not mistaken.

Optionvue will allow you to place real time paper trades and do back testing of strategies with futures options.

The full suite of options on futures trading tools are available with demo accounts for the TT platform. Demo accounts come with 10 minute delayed CME data.

Live prices in simulation are also available on the TT platform through a FCM.

For thinkorswim, I myself have used papermoney account to test option on futures. All you need to do is send them a message asking them to activate that feature. Give them some nice reason such as you want to test your strategy, backtest, SPAN margin, .... Last time it took me 30 minutes to activate it If you want anything with thinkorswim papermoney, just send them a message.

After reading your posts, if I understand them right you want to practice your option strategy without putting money into an account? I could be totally wrong in my understanding an if so don't be afraid to let me know. I have been looking for an options simulator myself but unable to find one. I found simulators on open contracts, they only have a few markets and expire too soon.
What I am doing is the old fashioned ink an paper, if I'm at a profit after a yr I will put some money into an online account. For now I do have a small account with a full service broker. They are close enough I can go to thier office an shake hands an visit or pound a fist on the desk. It cost more but gave me some very good advice but don't like dealing with selling options but will. Trying to learn more bout selling of options myself.
My real money am up on good. Which I only do with markets I am very secure with.
My paper has 2 parts. One I feel semi secure with markets but not enough to put into a real account. The other is basically guessing. In case you are wondering what the point of this is its to find out what markets work for me.
