On the cme quotes page i can see expiry for the underlying and for option. My question is can you have option expiring in june for underlying december futures contract? Or expiry is same for option and its underlying future?

If I remember correctly a trader from Australia also worked / works with DeCarley.

I work with DeCarley for some years. Carley is very friendly towards option sellers, has moderate fees (but more expensive than IB), and offers the best service I ever received from a broker.

I have a second account with IB, where I hold my stocks. I also use this account for future and option trades in case there is some money left. But in case I would have only one account I definitely would prefer DeCarley for option selling.

I live in Austria, and was always supported by her regarding specific issues regarding non-US Traders. The only disadvantage is that they only offer reports in US Dollar. This makes tax declaration a bit more difficult.

Best regards, Myrrdin

Thanks Myrrdin,
Great lead.
I have just initiated contact with them and I really appreciate this advice.
I have been having trouble finding a appropriate broker.
This is an awesome forum.
I have just a couple of questions which I may post soon.
Much appreciated.
Mick

Option expiration and futures expiration are not the same day.

I don't understand this question, "can you have option expiring in june for underlying december futures contract?". Give an example.

No
Jan, Feb, Mar Options have a Mar Underlying
Apr, May, Jun Options have a Jun Underlying
Jul, Aug, Sep Options have a Sep Underlying
Oct, Nov, Dec Options have a Dec Underlying

Unlike many other commodities there is very little point trading deferred Index Futures. The price of the deferred contracts is pretty much locked in at the price of the prompt contract plus the difference in dividend yield and holding cost.

Hi All,
I remember in this thread someone posted the SPAN data for ES from back 2008. I cannot seem to find it anymore, can anyone direct me to a post number on where this file is located? I am planning to backtest some strategy on 2008 crash.

Thanks in advance!
NN

It is just for first day of month.

Make sure you read the posts below it. You have to make a change to file name.

Or see Dudetooth's fix here. Again read posts after this post for fixes.

Let us know what you find.

Unfortunately, my contact with Decarley Brokers did not go through and I can't seem to get to their website at present.

So, after searching this thread, I am still unclear about 1 thing.
Can Far OTM, sold options be exercised, and if so what happens.
I mean, if someone places an order to buy one and mine is selected, do I get assigned and given a live futures position.
After all, when I place a vertical spread on far OTM options, I'm buying one of them off someone aren't I?
What happens to their position then?
This is my one and only concern with selling options.
Thanks
Mick

I fully agree with SMCJB for the index futures.

But for other commodities it does make sense to have options expiring in June for underlying December futures contract. Eg. in corn the short-dated options for the CZ future (new corp) are quite popular.

According to their platform, the initial margin for the ZCZ C470 is $437.80 .

Best regards, Myrrdin

Lets assume this option is quoting at $14 then the premium collected will be 14 x 5000 / 100 =$700. Is this correct? So you collecting more than the margin.
