Hey kimyew

The CBOE and OCC websites provide a list of weekly and regular way optionable products. Also, if you search the forums prior to creating new threads you might find that discussion already exists on a specific topic.

Liquidity is edge

If you are on Tastyworks, look for the stocks that have four gold stars. Also, watch some of the Tastytrade programming on the subject, as they are very liquidity centric.

The conventional wisdom now is that that there are about 70 high liquidity stocks, but practically speaking there are about a dozen that account for 80% of the liquidity in the market: SPY QQQ IWM AAPL NFLX SBUX FB TLT FB and XOM.

There are about 200 liquid names on the attached spreadsheet.

Note that AMZN and GOOGL are not on the list, nor is UVXY.

VXXB is also on the list but please note that this is a new issue and has not yet reached the level of liquidity of the old VXX. It should be #2 after SPY. It will be soon.

In the event of a vol spike, liquidity dries up and concentrates in VXX(B) first and SPY second.

The TW algorithm bases this rating on OI, volume and Bid Ask spread. I don't know of any other platform that has this feature.

In addition, according to my backtests, in a bull market, as for options prior to Feb 2018:

#1 most profitable trade is 40 delta QQQ call 7 days out

#2 was 40 delta VXX put 7 days out (this should apply to VXXB also)

#3 40 delta UVXY put 7 days out (*the old UVXY not the new, we don't have enough data on the new, and this backtest does not account for llquidity, which should be okay near the money but not always)

Thats right

@suko last two responses seem almost random here. But what suko is saying is a "key" that is universal only among people that "know".

A guy could make a damned good living pairs trading just VXXB puts with QQQ butterflies.
