I suspect there may be different margin requirements based on the country where you live. Anybody know for sure on that?

What I definitely can say is that I get minimum margin at DeCarley and at RJO as an Austrian citizen. I would assume that the same is true for all citizens of the European Union.

Best regards, Myrrdin

Sold CCu7p1600 for 14 today. IM is $517.

CC seems to drop into the last trading day of CCk before the first notice day for that contract. Then it rises after that.

1st Quarter Cocoa grindings for Asia and Northern America will be published on Thursday. These reports are major events for cocoa futures. European grindings have been published a couple of days ago and were ok.

Best regards, Myrrdin

Currently I hold the following positions in the short options portfolio:

LHQ P64
longterm trade.

LCQ P94
LCM C121
longterm trade, entered the first leg end of March and the second one recently.

Added to my long hogs position by selling the LHM P66. A turn up in pork values and seasonals should support. (Although we currently have to be careful regarding seasonals for hogs: Price action did not follow the seasonals in recent weeks. Especially there is no low in these days.)

I liquidated the LCQ P94, taking a profit of 50 to 60 %, with the intention to sell again at a lower level. Market looks overbought.

Best regards, Myrrdin

KWN P4.1
Intend to take profit around 50 %. (Second entry, after already taking 50 % short time ago.)

CLM C55
Shortterm trade, entered after the reversal on April 12th. I rarely enter trades with less than 40 DTE.

Took profit of approx. 30 % for the KWN P4.1 . We are in a weather market, and I do not like holding short options during this time.

Also took a small profit for the CLM C55.

Best regards, Myrrdin

A presentation from J.Kemp (Reuters Energy analyst) regarding the CL market in the coming months.
Downward pressure is expected.

Seasonals and COT data support this trade, but S&D is still bearish. Last year's El Nino had its most negative impact on the 2015/2016 mid crop production. Thus, Ivory Coast and Ghanaian output over the next few weeks will probably come in ahead of last years level.

I am bullish Cocoa for quite a while, and already lost some money being long this commodity. Currrently I am not invested.

Although I think 1600 should hold I will not enter this trade in the short term.

Best regards, Myrrdin

Sold the CCU P1600 today for 42.

Grinding for Asia was stronger than expected. Grinding for Northern America will be published after the close.

I assume that volatility will be reduced after these two quarterly reports.

Plans for seasonal trades in the upcoming weeks:

I intend to sell coffee calls on a move upwards to approx. 150 for the KCN.

And I have a look at selling cotton calls on a further small move upwards.

For both commodities I will sell either September or December options.

Best regards, Myrrdin

Yet CC drops so much today. Do you know why?

To be honest: No.

But I assume it has to do with technical traders or with supply. It is not as easy to get supply information for cocoa as for grains or beans.

Or someone knows something about quarterly grindings in Northern America, which will be published after the close.

But COT data is extremely bullish, and large traders will cover their shorts as soon as there is some bullish news.

And cocoa price broke down just before noon (Chicago time), and reversed immediately with high volume. A sign of strength.

I am optimistic now that even 1700 will hold, as long as the quarterly grindings report for Northern America is at least neutral. The corresponding reports for Europe and Asia were better than expected, probably due to the low prices.

Best regards, Myrrdin

Asian first quarter cocoa grindings were 19.2 % above year ago level, trade was looking for a 10 % increase.

Northern America grindings came in roughly in-line with trade estimates.

Interesting regarding supply is information that many beans from Ivory coast did not meet size and quality standards for export.

Best regards, Myrrdin
