In speaking with OEC earlier, I was told that 5 DOM's is the max. I actually had none open though. I was then told 10 charts max. Wow, if true. I have one workspace that has 12 daily charts. It provides a macro view of the markets...
I am seeking clarification from OEC, but figured I'd ask here if others have received this error message or are otherwise aware of such limitations...
Can you help answer these questions from other members on NexusFi?
I heard back from OEC later in the afternoon, and I was informed that it was most likely the 5 tick based limit.
The rep said that MC might be using OEC's tick data feed instead of minute data, therefore limiting the data that is accessible. Interesting.
OEC allows 5 DOM's, 10 charts (5 of which can be tick), and 50 quotes. He said that MC may reuse data if using the same symbol, so it may be possible to have more than 10 charts. OEC allows for 10 separate threads, as he called them...
I next need to check with MC, with respect to OEC's response.
MultiCharts does indeed load the data only once for a symbol and then streams it to all appropriate charts. Regarding daily data - if you load a daily chart for history we load daily OHLC, i.e. only four values for any particular day. However, if you have them open in real-time, we do subscribe to tick data because your Daily bar is still open, and the Close value is updating (it's ticking). So in reality you had 9 tick subscriptions, and you were past the limit.
If you just want to see historical daily charts without realtime updates, use the FROM and TO date settings when you create a chart.

While it is OEC's imposed limit, it's important to understand how MC does what it does too... It seems that every chart created by MC will utilize real-time tick data, when available. And with OEC, that means 5 charts max. At least that is how I'm interpreting the responses from OEC and MC...
