Thanks for the well wishes.

Just got back from the doctor today. Very, very hard to type now - left hand about 99% useless. Saw xrays took during surgery, completely shocking. He said he will give me a CD with them later when he has time. They really surprised me, the damage was so much worse than you could see when I was awake (due to pain threshold to separate or move fingers for xray).

I got a few pics and one pic of a new xray from today (not best angle, but didn't want to keep taking pics).

I now stay in this cast, which is much tighter than the old one and incredibly uncomfortable, for 3 weeks. Then a sling for 2-3 days, then the second surgery, then a sling again, and a couple months of physical therapy.

Mike

Wow, Mike. Scary stuff. You seem to be managing it with a sense of humor, that's the best you can do. Other than follow the rules and don't tax yourself too much.

We'll keep thinking kind thoughts for you. Sorry we can't do more.

Take care

K

I was breaking up a dog fight this morning and have injured my left pinky finger. I'm not sure if it is just swollen, broken or dislocated... i can't move it out of this position and the pain is very high.

Thoughts? (other than go to doctor... no health insurance)

Mike

Hi, the pictures you publish do not look good. I personally would have consulted the doctors to let him see, whats goin' on inside of you hand.
Wish you all th best that anything will run back so, that you can use your hand as well as before as fast as possible. Best wishes to you !
By the way : Something simular is happened to me some weeks before, only details have been different : A dog bite me, when passing by bicycle, without any warning, into my right leg. Result : Doctor+hospital !
They gave me an injection to prevent tetanus, this is standard in germany. They say, that nobody can know, where the dog has had its tooth in before it bite you, so the risk of an infect is relativ high. This is the way, they do it here. I'm fit again, but a ten day handycap when walking hit me. This was the first time, that something like this happened to me. Now I do something, I've never done before all my life : Bicycling and awaring a dog, I turn beside a bit in a bow ! All right or to sensitive now ? Anybody reacts different.
Best wishes again
Regards
Klaus

That's impossible, I pay over $1500.00 a month for family healthcare benefits. Individual coverage is something like $700.00 a month. I wouldn't want to have a major procedure on that healthcare plan. Probably wouldn't pay for a pill.

There are a lot of factors that play into the cost of healthcare in the US and out of pocket monthly is only one of them.

First, is this being subsidized by an employer or organization? Also, age and prior illness have a huge impact on the monthly cost.

If not being subsidized, then this must be a catastrophic plan with a large annual out of pocket. Attached is a picture of example of catastrophic care in California for a healthy 19 - 29 year old and it doesn't apply to certain counties nor take into account prior health issues nor does it cover maternity.

I have a friend who is in their 50s and no health problems. $400 out of pocket monthly for premiums for catastrophic care, no employer subsidizes. I have friend of a friend who can't get health coverage because of a prior medical issue.

Your friends only gave you one piece of the puzzle.

Andrew

She said she even had to pay more because she never had a baby yet and that's why it was even more than normal.

A few months ago she had an accident with the ski and had to stay in the hospital that bill was over $18.000 and she had to pay $145 of that bill.

She's self-employed.

Hey Metal,

I would be interested to find out the plan administrator, would you mind passing that along?

Cheers
