I heard that syfy picked up Firefly today. Hopefully after they replay it, they will renew it -- something USA never did. Great series.

Being Human (British version (better!) and American version)
Eureka (forgot this one earlier)
FireFly
Fringe
House
Justified
Legend of the Seeker
Merlin
RealTime with Bill Maher (not sure you'd call it a 'series')
Stargate Universe (forgot this one, earlier)
Supernatural
The Vampire Diaries
The Walking Dead
TrueBlood
V-2009
Warehouse 13
White Collar

With few exceptions, anyone see a pattern here?

After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!

Hey @TheWizard, you and I are both scifi fans. I really hated that they cancelled both Caprica and SGU. The last five or six episodes of Caprica really took off, I was hooked. The first part sucked, but man they did a great job on the last several -- and then only to find it was cancelled!

I've always loved the SG franchise, SG-1 is one of my all time favorite shows. I liked the direction SGU was going, but apparently I was alone

Legend of the Seeker was also a great show. I really liked the action sequences, they did a great job, and some good stories. Also now cancelled

Firefly is fantastic! Glad to see so many fans here. Cancelled

Merlin is great, the last half of last year was much better. Glad it was renewed.

I am behind on almost everything else you listed by at least 1 or 2 seasons, hence why my 4TB media server is full Lots of great shows, not enough time.

As for Californication, I like the story line and David Duchovny alot. Dexter, I love Dexter, but once the killed <someone really important> I haven't even come back and watched the most recent series yet.

Has anyone seen the new Hawaii Five O? Looks like it might actually be good. Another really awesome show no one has listed is Burn Notice! Any Burn Notice fans? Man I love that show. But, I also loved Alias. Man was Jennifer hot!

Mike, You just brought a frown to my face. I had every expectation that The Legend of the Seeker was coming back soon. So sad. Really loved that show. I googled & found out that it has, indeed, been cancelled. Oh, well. They usually cancel the shows I like. On the other hand, Reality TV, for which I have absolutely no use whatsoever, just keeps going and going and going. What a world!

After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!

I watch Merlin too, and thank GOD it has gotten better in the last few episodes. I'm tired of him "hiding" his magic and everyone else acting so gullible.

I also watch Spartacus, both Blood and Sand and Gods of the Arena. Neat to have the prequel going on. It is a shame about the lead actor's cancer diagnosis. I hope the replacement is a quality replacement.

I was super excited for Californication when it started back up this year but the show has gone right off a cliff.
Dexter season 5 might be even worse though because the prior seasons were so good.

I felt the same about V, but the last couple of episodes have been really good, lots of major events with the main characters, and lots of action. If you liked V, you might also like 'The Event'.

Was talking to a friend recently who had never heard of The Sopranos. I want to watch it again, great television

Someone was recommending "Parks and Recreations" to me, anyone seen it? They said it was like The Office.

Never heard of it, but The Sopranos are great. They are on A&E on Sunday mornings at 11:00 AM Est. for several episodes and if the weather is shitty or nothing to do I will watch a old episode.

Parks And Recreation has the same format as the Office. It stars Amy Poehler, who I like, but I don't think the show is as funny, and quirky The Office.

Maybe this is why I should have two houses.... nah, not really....although..... I don't mind her name being on the deed of our main home, especially as she'll be contributing.

Just finished the first season of Justified -- starts a little slow but gradually gets more intense and is overall very good -- has some great characters, too.

All time favorites would have to be Curb, Sienfeld, The Office (US), and Breaking Bad.

Looking forward to seeing what Game of Thrones is all about.

My least favorite series to watch has been the NY Rangers vs. the Wash. Caps!

I like HBO series - The Wire is so brilliant I get more understanding each time I've seen it.

Also cartoons like older Simpson's, Family Guy, South Park and Dr. Katz.

Used to love the X-Files and Steven Spielberg mini-series Taken was the best.

Texas is a community property state, she's entitled to 50% of everything acquired during the marriage unless specifically excluded in a prenuptial agreement (assuming the agreement holds up in court ), regardless whether she was employed outside the home or not.

I have it on good authority that, based on the Sopranos popularity, Deadwood got the go ahead from HBO execs to cater to their viewers who scored in the top 90% of reading comprehension.

I called Big Mike and he promised to take the time and "thank" every post by the member who could correctly tell me why HBO canceled the second best drama series in history (Deadwood).

That's with a flash crash pinky folks.

David Milch, Deadwoods creator , was contractually obligated to develop a new show for HBO , "John From Cincinnati". HBO was concerned that due to his working methodology, he would be delayed returning to Deadwood production which would have been quite expensive with the large cast sitting around waiting.

Deadwood was already an expensive show to produce. The set for Deadwood was an actual full scale town built to Authentic standards; real houses, real saloons, real hotels , complete with livestock, mud and manure. A place you could actually live in , if you didn't mind living without indoor plumbing.

I'm just a simple man trading a simple plan.

Yes, big Doctor. Who fan, and its spinoff Torchwood. The new Torchwood is now going to be filmed in California, with a couple of American actors added to the cast. Have to see how it holds up. My avatar is the Torchwood 'T'

You are a dirty old man It has too much doggy for my taste but it's still a good show.

The Killing is also a show that I watch. It's pretty good but I'm getting tired of the scenes where the family is mourning. From the last episode it looks like their might be something interesting happening with the father. I really like the Seattle location. Does anyone know if the show is a remake ? Is it a remake of Prime Suspect with Helen Mirren ?

I watched the first season of Torchwood and stopped. I couldn't get into it, if I remember right the accents seemed really fake or off, something was just not quite right. Maybe it has improved in its years, that is certainly common.

I believe all the actors in the last production of Torchwood were Brittish except for the main actor, John Barrowman. As for Dr Who. The last season with the 10th Doctor, David Tenant was awesome. Aside from the Tom Baker (4th Doctor), I think David Tenant was one of the best of the Doctor characters. The current season with Mat Smith is mainly about time traveling, so many of the stories are a little convoluted and hard to follow.

John Barrowman is Scottish. He and his parents emigrated to Illinois when he was 9.
For the most part he uses his 'American' accent, except when at home with his parents.
YouTube - John Barrowman's Scottish Accent

And he has an absolutely gorgeous singing voice. A set of vocal chords to kill for. I have almost all his CD's.
Here's a sample of that wonderful crystal clear voice.
YouTube - John Barrowman - What About Us?

Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper on Torchwood) is Welsh (the "odd / off" British accent you sensed)
Kai Owen (Rhys Williams) is also Welsh
Gareth David-Lloyd (Ianto Jones) is also Welsh
Burn Gorman (Owen Harper) was born in Hollywood & emigrated to England when he was 7.
Naoko Mori (Toshiko Sato) Was born in Japan, grew up in Japan, US (N.J.) and emigrated to England when she was 12

As you can probably guess, Torchwood is (was) one of my FAVORITE series.

After all, it's what you learn AFTER you know it all, that counts!

2 of my all time favorite shows, along with The Wire. A real shame they cancelled Deadwood before it had run its full course. The level of quality in the writing is just heads and tales above other shows.

It's not a comedy but there are some really funny moments.

Rome was also really good. I stopped watching game of thrones after the 3rd one b/c it was brutally cruel w/o the redeeming qualities of a Rome , The Wire and Deadwood.

You inspired me to write a few funny quotes remembered from DW - but typed out they looked more vulgar.

My ex was a wizard at buying videos and dvd's on the cheap - it was like dating blockbuster.

Wall Street Warriors.
I just finished the whole series and enjoyed it. I was really surprised to see those stock brokers pushing a single stock to their clients...in the end, they should have hired that Russian Trader with NO losing months.

Watching Falling Skies now. My wife and I are more than a little annoyed by the idiocy of the writing and acting, but overall, not too shabby. Also, she is watching Weeds and Breaking Bad.

and...

For me to love watching, TOP GEAR IS BACK! No, not the American one, but the real one .

The new Torchwood mini-series is pretty interesting. What happens when for some strange reason, no body in the word is dying? You still get sick, you still have accidents, you still experience bodily trauma, you still bleed, you still feel pain, but you remain conscious, and you just never die. Why is this happening, and what social and global scale repercussions does this have? How does the the Torchwood/CIA crew solve this?

Here's a chilling scene. A woman is tied up and put in a car. A crane picks up the car places it in a car compactor, which proceeds to mangle and compact the car. The final shot, is the camera zooming in through the mangled metal of the compacted car and stops at a tiny opening where you see just the woman's eye ball wide open looking around in horror! Can you imagine being trapped like that, your body all mangled, and being fully conscious and aware, alone with your thoughts in that state forever!!!? If you believe in the concept of hell, I thing that would qualify.

I'd be embarrassed to divulge how many shows I watch at some point.

But the latest show that I added to my list is " Suits." So far it is a really well done show.

Sorry Haverchuck, missed this when you responded.
All I can say is DAMN what a kick ass show. I'm pretty sure it will move into the best show ever for me when all said and done.

I'm also finishing off Entourage which at this point it is just laughable how bad it is...Just completely horrible. Can't wait for it to be over and Jeremy Piven to move on to something else.

Love Bites. It was canceled after 1 season, but great acting, writing, and merging of different story lines.

I knew that series would not last more then 1 season. There was a series like this in the 80's I think called love american style, which I think did pretty well. But, I think TV audiences have changed, people don't really want feel good, light and fluffy predictable TV anymore, they want gritty, adult, complex, graphic, sophisticated, extra ordinary situations and story lines.

I tried getting into Torchwood. I decided to start with Season 3 earlier. I've only watched 2 episodes, but so far I'm just not making a connection.

I am downloading Season 1 of Burn Notice now as I've heard nothing but good things about it. And USA Network does some really good shows. So if Burn Notice is on par with White Collar or Suits I'll be pretty happy.

I tend to only start watching a series after it has been on for 3 years or more, because I don't want to spend time getting to know chars and then have the stupid network cancel a good show at the end of 1 or 2 seasons.

The basic idea seems taken from one of Saramago's novels:
Amazon.com: Death with Interruptions (9780151012749): Jose Saramago, Margaret Jull Costa: Books

I've watched a few episodes so far, and I'm really enjoying this show! At the beginning I wasn't sure, I thought it was going to have a goofy vibe to it. And it kinda does, but it's clever.

I'm enjoying it.

Michael Westin is awesome. Sam is awesome too. And Fiona... well, she is yummy.

The show is predictable, but always a lot of fun.

Thanks for reminding me, I haven't watched that show in a while. I spent 3 months in Miami when traveling, so it will be nice to dream myself back there... Not that Miami is a paradise, but it sure beats Norway...

I often watch shows just for the scenery, does that make me insane?

That reminds me, I have to start watching Magnum P.I. again... Along with A-Team, probably the shows ever made. And the theme songs are out of this world...

If you like Miami scenery (human, and landscape) you should check out CSI Miami as well.

Speaking of scenery... I have been saving "Hawaii Five-O" but haven't started watching yet, I am hoping it is a good show and nice scenery of both kinds.

I thinks it's pretty good. It has that old action comedy-vibe that used to reign when I was growing up. Without the foul language, of course. Damn the FCC!

Hawaii truly is the most beautiful place on earth (at least in the western world), I can't wait to go back... You should have a forum get-together/seminar there, Mike! That way it could be a tax write-off...

Btw, I was actually referring to the landscape, you dirty bastards...

It takes my mind of the 10 feet of snow soon to arrive... I have always had a soft spot for azure ocean... Maybe it's because I'm an Aquarius?

Does anyone else watch Archer?

I feel like the Archer Character was modeled a bit after Michael Westin. I don't remember, but it was some personality Westin had taken on that made me think of Archer.

Had not heard of it, but looked it up:

Archer (TV Series 2009) - IMDb

Got good reviews, but I don't care much for animation like this. The only thing I watch that is animated is Star Wars: The Clone Wars.

Definitely not a kid-friendly cartoon.

I think Archer is hilarious. You should watch one episode, to see if its your type of humor.

Archer is very funny adult humor, but I don't see much similarities between the Archer character and Michael Westin, mainly because I think the Archer character is an idiot who just happens to have some innate talent (or luck)

its a joke, and a useless instruction manual on being a couch domestic spy

Suits is quite interesting, but formula, wonder how long they will maintain their edge. Watching it sure explains a lot of things that B School leaves out.

a lot of traders occupy their idle time with mindless TV series, just to counter balance what all this time screen watching and trading does to someone...

The Unit, Prison Break, Las Vegas, and if you can find these two: Miami Vice or West Wing.

cheers

hey, have you seen where / how to start bagging those 100+, 197+ 230+ pip moves in 6E?

Alright, this thread has gotten my juices flowing. I haven't watched TV in ages... I usually only watch sports anyway...

I prefer to wait for shows to come out on DVD, as I hate commercial brakes. They ruin the whole experience for me...

But sometimes the studious do the horrendous thing of editing the soundtrack before releasing the DVDs, in order to avoid to pay royalties. This has ruined the DVDs of shows like Fastlane and Wiseguy...

Currently I am downloading North Shore (more beautiful scenery) and the original episodes (hopefully) of Wiseguy... That show is excellent, I haven't seen an episode in 20 years...

The late 80's/early 90's were the best... GNR, Bruce Willis, Pearl Jam, Wiseguy, Lethal Weapon, The Adventures of Ford Fairlane.... I've never understood the people that prefer adulthood, it sucks growing up...

Haven't watched Eureka in a couple years.. been saving up the episodes... but just heard they cancelled it. That figures. I heard it had Wil Wheaton (Star Trek) and Felicia Day (The Guild) in it, and I like those two so was looking forward to checking it out.

I'm just about to finish Smallville season 9 and go to the final season 10. Have enjoyed this show for a while, one of my guilty pleasures perhaps lol The last couple seasons (8,9 and presumably 10) it's been a lot of fun seeing the changes for Clark Kent and how he will become Superman. Lots of suspense still as he hasn't actually been called Superman yet in the show, but they've been eluding to it and getting "closer".
