When said like that it puts a lot of these shows/films into perspective.

No intention to be a big downer but the venom of her reaction was palpable so I put that in.

Escobar has a legacy, some here (all uneducated) still think he was a hero, in the weird way the most destitute somehow love the hardest man who gives them crumbs... from the loaf he stole from them. His "legend" needs to fade as just like Hitler, there are young men who now years later will see him as a hero/antihero and not just an unmitigated evil bastard who deserves no glory. Commercially profiting from this (with a slicker image and cooler soundtrack than before?) is ugly, particularly when there have been so many shows and movies already. The same producers would unlikely have the balls to do something similar about the living El Chapo Guzman as disapproval might be fatal.

They will wait until only the victim's families remain to be offended. (ok.. Breaking Bad went there with "Guzman" but with a very fictional version).

Anyhoo Ash vs Evil dead is very very gory however if dark humor and massive cheese is your thing sometimes..

I mentioned it to my girlfriend just now and she... disapproves... 'Another F$%***^ Escobar Series!!' She instead suggested that "stupid ignorant USA producers go to Saudi next and do a TV series obliquely glorifying the life of Bin-Laden because he too was quite interesting considering his life achievements and it would not be endlessly insensitive to Colombians who lost half their families to the monster Escobar" (roughly translated from very fast Spanish). Touchy.

However... we are both loving the new Ash vs Evil Dead series so peace is restored! Sam Rami himself is directing it I'm not a big horror fan (I don't scare..) but Evil Dead II is a classic, Army of Darkness not bad either and Bubba-Ho-Tep was robbed at the Oscars IMHO. Bruce Campbell being the greatest American actor's chin of his generation is still in fighting form as Ash returns to fight the dead-ites.

Actually, not even close to glorifying him.

Doesn't she know USA only glorifies USA?

You are never in the wrong place... but sometimes you are in the right place looking at things in the wrong way.

Fair point, yes, she has some idea To cheer her up earlier.. she nearly passed out laughing at this clip from Scottish comedian Frankie Boyle (during a BBC comedian's debate about Scottish Independence).

Frankie is famously equally acerbic/awful with everyone, its off topic for the thread but he has an characteristic Scottish take on US style conflict movies. I guess including shows like Homeland (which I have not seen myself but I'm told is a good example of very naughty scripting, poor Clare Danes, I still think your hot

Just caught up and finished season 2 of Fargo. I have to say, both seasons really impressed me. It's probably one of the best TV shows going right now.

I finished the final episode of season 2 an hour ago as I have flu today and binging. Its very good indeed. Love the laconic feel but there's plenty of intelligent writing.

I just finished watching a German mini-series on Netflix called Generation War. Kind of like "Friends," but with a Third Reich twist. If you like World War 2 history you'll like this. The combat scenes are well done.

Now I'm watching Rectify. As a defense lawyer, one thing I don't understand is if the main character's sentence was vacated (different from having a conviction overturned) how can he be released from prison? This is a capital crime, for which you can be held without bail, so he should still be incarcerated while waiting a new trial. I mean no way are they going to release the guy while facing a death penalty charge. But I guess it wouldn't make for good television if he was still sitting in jail. But it's a good show if you like slow character dramas.

4 episodes in and i'm hooked.

Has potential to be the next big Scifi hit.

"Free markets work because they allow people to be lucky, thanks to aggressive trial and error, not by giving rewards or incentives for skill. The strategy is, then, to tinker as much as possible and try to collect as many Black Swan opportunities as you can"

Just watched the first episode of The Shannara Chronicles. Ok, I'm not much into fantasy genre as an increasingly middle aged man (GofT excepted) but as I own The Sword of Shannara (signed first edition, 1977 mint)... everybody is encourages to worship this series

Its visually well produced and Terry Brooks (author) is supervising the script and shooting with MTV. Not bad. Something to watch with the GF anyway and if no GF, it has a sexy Elvin princess.

Currently free to watch first episodes:
The Shannara Chronicles Full Episode | S1 + E1 - Chosen Episode 1 and 2 - | MTV
of course if outside the US you need a proxy, Hola extension in Chrome worked fine for me and free (if you trust it) but I always switch it off when not using it.
