NTSF:SD:SUV uses real people but seems to have the same basic concepts.
Let me know what you think, if time permits.

I watched the first two or three. Funny stuff, but so short! Captain Janeway has put on some weight... but haven't we all, lol.

I love the part during the opening intro title sequence where he takes off his sunglasses then immediately puts on another pair! LOL!

Through the Wormhole. It's really good thing. It's time to think who are we.

This series got rave reviews and I am looking forward to it. I've got it saved up and will watch it after I finish "The Universe". I'm currently on season 2 of The Universe, so it will take me a bit to finish up. Season 6 just started too.

I also checked out "Wonders of the Universe" recently and liked it, although I really like The Universe better as I prefer more details and less babble.

I am going to look The Universe. I like everything that is connected with space. Actually we all are from there. By the way one psychic has told me that my soul had flown from other planet.

That's a spoof on Horatio Caine's signature move on CSI Miami It's even funnier to watch that character do it in all seriousness

Anyone who is into the weird and macabre, will like 'American Horror Story'. I watched the first couple of episodes, that show just downright creeped me out!

@monpere
Yes dude, I watched the the first few episodes, and this is probably the weirdest show I have EVAR seen. It's good, engaging..... but just weird as all hell.

Every time I watch it, I continually catch myself either with my mouth open wondering 'wtf,' or I find that I have the strangest look of puzzlement on my face.

One show that sadly was quickly discontinued was Thanks.
Apparently they made their 6 episodes to see if it would take off. Like
that is giving it a fair shot!

I've been watching my now favorite show, CNBC's "American Greed".

In particular the ponzi scheme episodes. There are examples of so many of them and people losing unimaginable (to most) amounts of money. It's sad and ridiculous how so many people can have their savings wiped out by psychopathic ponzi fund scammers. And sometimes it's a trader or entrepreneur who gets to manage too much money all of a sudden who gets corrupted so fast. I think it also brings into question in an indirect way, the mystery of the spiritual and temptation aspects of trading and whether it's a corrupting endeavor. I hope they do a special episode on the scammy side of the trading education industry one day. Because most people don't reveal their personal finance endeavors so all the business with investing into funds, scams and trading education hardly ever gets reported even though it has been and continues to be a giant and growing industry today.

I'm really loving Boardwalk Empire. Is the best show since the Wire for me. But the Wire is my no.1 of all time.

Rule of Acquisition #1

Once you have their money, you never give it back.

Rules of Acquisition - Memory Alpha, the Star Trek Wiki
---------------------------------------------------------------------

"Star Trek: Enterprise: Acquisition (#1.19)" (2002)

[the Ferengi have plundered Enterprise]

Captain Jonathan Archer: What do you need all this for, anyway? You seem to already have plenty of technology.
Krem: One can never have too much. The Rules of Acquisition say "Expand or die."
Captain Jonathan Archer: "Rules of Acquisition"?
Krem: Mm, that's rule number 45. I've memorized all 173, including the most important one: "A man is only worth the sum of his possessions."
Captain Jonathan Archer: Back on my homeworld, that kind of thinking almost destroyed our civilization.
Krem: You should've managed your businesses better.

Captain Jonathan Archer (Character) - Quotes
--------------------------------------------------------------------

Mary Shannon: [voice-over] The reason I despise con artists, more than any of the other garden-variety miscreants that I see on a daily basis, is because robbing people of their worldly possessions isn't enough for them. They don't just leave their victims destitute, they leave them feeling foolish... betrayed. Mostly, I hate con artists because they break their victims' hearts.

"In Plain Sight" Never the Bride (2008) - Memorable quotes

For the love of money is the root of all kinds of evil.

-Paul

1 Timothy 6:10 For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs.

Notice is says... the love of money... It is not money itself
that is the root of all kinds of evil.

... spiritual and temptation aspects...

The sense of ownership in general is always to be encouraged. The humans are
always putting up claims to ownership which sound equally funny in Heaven and in
Hell and we must keep them doing so...We produce this sense of ownership not
only by pride but by confusion. We teach
them not to notice the different senses of the possessive pronoun—the finely
graded differences that run from "my boots" through "my dog", "my servant", "my
wife", "my father", "my master" and "my country", to "my God". They can be
taught to reduce all these senses to that of "my boots", the "my" of ownership.
Even in the nursery a child can be taught to mean by "my Teddy-bear" not the old
imagined recipient of affection to whom it stands in a special relation...
but "the bear I can pull to pieces if I like".
And at the other end of the scale, we have
taught men to say "My God" in a sense not really very different from "My boots",...
And all the time the joke is that the word "Mine" in its fully possessive sense
cannot be uttered by a human being about anything.

Yes

And I heard Sci-Fi is going to air it again next year, so maybe it will garner some new fans and we'll see another movie or something.

I recently finished watching the entire run of "Friday Night Lights". At first I wasn't sure about this show, thinking it may be too "high school" type, too "90210" type (sorry, can't think of a more recent example, lol).

First, you should probably like football and even better, you should be from or live in Texas to really appreciate this show.

I really, really liked the "Coach Taylor" role, and the whole family dynamic. After the first season, I was hooked and thoroughly enjoyed the remaining 4 seasons (5 in total).

One thing that I absolutely noticed is that I would often find myself thinking "OK, this is going to happen next" --- insert whatever obvious, bad, suspenseful thing you can think of here... But I was always proven wrong. The show constantly surprised me and never fell prey to repetition or predictable behavior.

I was really sorry to see it go!

That was an excellent series! It just amazes me that it never really garnered the popularity to keep it around longer.

Yes, I am actually thinking of buying the entire box set as a Christmas gift for my grandmother. She loves football and I think would enjoy this series, being a "Texas girl" and liking football, plus being a great show... I would say just rent it on Netflix, but she doesn't have internet access!!! Imagine that... That is why I am having a hard time deciding to actually buy the DVD's... I mean, who buys DVD's!!!

"Culture is not your friend". Terrence McKenna

In Understanding Media, Marshall McLuhan describes the "content" of a medium as a juicy piece of meat carried by the burglar to distract the watchdog of the mind. [4] This means that people tend to focus on the obvious, which is the content, to provide us valuable information, but in the process, we largely miss the structural changes in our affairs that are introduced subtly, or over long periods of time. [3] As society's values, norms and ways of doing things change because of the technology, it is then we realize the social implications of the medium. These range from cultural or religious issues and historical precedents, through interplay with existing conditions, to the secondary or tertiary effects in a cascade of interactions [3] that we are not aware of.

So please take your eyes off the man behind the curtain. Nothing to see here. Move on.

PBS has done a number of Nova shows on the universe, time, space, etc.
in their The Fabric of the Cosmos series.

This one here is about space itself. It actually is something. But
theoretical physicists don't know what space is. Full episode at link.

The Fabric of the Cosmos: The Illusion of Time

(No, they don't know what time is either.)

Tonight on PBS they have:

The Fabric of the Cosmos: Universe or Multiverse?

There are other "The Fabric of the Cosmos" episodes. I'm not sure if any others
are free to watch on-line however. Maybe.

What I am watching:

All the CSI shows - New York, Miami, and the one in Las Vegas (my favorite). I always wonder how you get started in that field. Chemistry major?

I also watch the Food competition shows - The Next Iron Chef, Chopped, Cupcake Wars, etc. Only problem is I get so hungry watching them.....

Online Video Sites Go Pro And Get Original

December 9, 2011

Excerpts below talk about youtube, hulu, and netflix having their own professional content.

The online videos Americans watch are about to change. Up to this point, it's been a lot of amateur videos on YouTube and old movies and TV shows on Netflix and Hulu. But all three services are now starting to feature their own professionally made videos...

From YouTube Studios

The Machinima channel on YouTube started out with user-submitted videos for video game-lovers. But Warner Entertainment recently produced an original series for the channel about the backstory of Mortal Kombat characters — which attracted 5 million views in its first five days of release.

...Netflix says the service has the exclusive rights to House of Cards, staring Kevin Spacey.

Venture capitalist Mark Suster notes that Netflix has also bought exclusive rights to a new season of Arrested Development, a sitcom that was canceled by Fox..

DanceOn's show JustDance bills itself as "Your source for the latest dance news in mainstream media." YouTube is putting its own funding into the channel...

Fight Science

4 full episodes free at hulu

Watched about half of Stealth Fighters episode.

Basic summary below. Might have missed one segment.

*)Power generated by different martial arts kicks analyzed.
*)Blowgun.
*)Woman makes her way through laser maze like they do in movies.
*)Freerunning and parkour (which I think is awesome)

Example of freerunning and parkour in the movie District B13 (looks like a movie I'd like):

(don't make it full screen, it's too grainy, sorry)

Wow

Yes... I was kind of disappointed with the season as a whole, not one of his best. But the season finale episode was quite good and I was like "holllllyyyy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" at the very end.... not wanting to ruin it for anyone...

One of about 3 of the new Dr. Who episodes I've seen.
The doctor is hardly in it, but I thought it was good.

The Doctor: Fascinating race, the Weeping Angels. The only psychopaths in the universe to kill you nicely. No mess, no fuss. They just zap you into the past and let you live to death. The rest of your life is used up and blown away in the blink of an eye. You die in the past, and in the present they consume the energy of all the days you might have had, all your stolen moments. They're creatures of the abstract. They live off potential energy.

Californication is back on!!!

Watched the first 10 minutes, and it was hilarious. Felt like the show had been off for years, but immediately brought right back into it.

I generally stay away from dramas these days. Mostly watch light stuff.
Under too much stress I guess.

Below is a clip from Victorious. Jade West (real name Elizabeth Gillies)
is at her acting teacher's house with co-students from school. She, and the
others have to stay in character all night no matter what. Jade is a bad girl
but must be a sweet southern gal, or she will be eliminated from the competition.

To me it's funny. Clip length 63 seconds.

Hi,

This is probably my first post of any sort of length (Yeah, I'm the quiet type). After reading through the thread I realized that many of us have similar tastes in shows!

Some of my favorites have already been mentioned (These are somewhat in order that I enjoy them):

Battlestar Galactica
Lost
Breaking Bad
Dexter
The Walking Dead
Homeland
Boardwalk Empire
Sons of Anarchy
Suits
Mad Men
True Blood
Spartacus
Bored to Death
Californication
Hung
Weeds
Eastbound and Down

Some new shows I've been testing the waters on:

Alcatraz (Inmates come back from history to commit crimes, a hot blonde and Hurley from Lost chase them down.)

Person of Interest (A computer capable of predicting harmful crimes helps Ben from Lost and ex-CIA hitman John stop them before they happen.)

Luck (A series about people tied to the same horse racing track.)

Shows that I'll likely give a shot thanks to this thread:

The Universe
Archer

.. And anything else I might find!

-Andy

With hundreds of channels and thousands of shows to choose from, I really just have three that are always in my viewing rotation:

Breaking Bad

Archer

Dexter

Some of Sarah Silverman is funny, although I haven't watched her
show in a long time. I suppose it depends on how desperate you are
for a laugh.

Her stuff is available at hulu (plus version, $7.99 per month) and
perhaps other sites as well.

You may have to wait for a 30 second commercial to play first.

She avoids helping someone move, and her remote batteries die.

Clip length is 2:30.

Thought it was a very well written series... Think that Michael C. Hall was perfect for the character of Dexter Morgan

Yes... no spoilers, but the end of the most recent season was stunning... can't wait for next year!

"The River" just ended it's first season on ABC. It's about a mother and her son who hire a boat and film crew to search for her husband who has disappeared on the amazon river. Great rain forest scenery, along with all the supernatural creepiness you can handle, if you are into thriller, suspense, ans skin crawling paranormal events.

Just watched the 2nd episode of "Missing". Ashley Judd, as an ex CIA agent looking for her kidnapped son in Europe. Good action sequences, fight choreography, and beautiful scenery and action shot on location all over Europe.

I just finished watching "Lilyhammer". I guess I might be biased, but I found it enjoyable. If you like action comedies from the 8/90's, I think you would enjoy this. There's hardly any action, but it's got that same feeling to it.

For the sake of full disclosure: I also enjoyed "The Adventures of Ford Fairlane" and "Hudson Hawk".

Also enjoyed Battlestar Galactica (for sci fi lovers), Dexter, Walking Dead, and Game of Thrones

Wow, 8.3 on IMDB. I'm surprised by that. It's apparent that the readers of this thread suck, though!

First, I'm a Food Network addict:
Chopped (totally loving the All-Stars edition!)
Cupcake Wars
Iron Chef America
The Best Thing I've Ever Ate
looking forward to the next seasons of The Next Food Network Star, The Great Food Truck Race, and Worst Cooks in America

Racing:
Formula 1
V8 Supercars
SCCA World Challenge Series
British Touring Car Championship
Grand-Am Rolex Series

Other stuff I love to watch:
Top Shot
Top Gear (UK edition, the US edition seems like a poor imitation of the original)
Deadliest Catch
Anthony Bourdain - No Reservations
The Daily Show with Jon Stewart

And hockey, hockey, hockey, hockey.

That will definitely be a good series! Although, being a Sabres fan, the playoffs will be a bit bittersweet for me.

Penguins is my team. I was a huge fan of Lemieux in my childhood, and now Crosby has replaced him nicely. It's quite extraordinary for a team to have two extraordinary talents in succession like that.

The Flyers are tough to beat, though.

Sabres? Iactually was an exchange student in Plattsburgh for a few weeks (I went home due to a falling out with the host family), and I hoped to catch a game in Buffalo. It's a shame I didn't stay long enough for that...

Lemieux brought Crosby to the team, did he not?

Plattsburgh is pretty far from Buffalo, about a 7 hour drive. I'd have to argue it would have been worth it though, Buffalo certainly is a hockey town. That's probably what I miss the most about living there!

Yes, Crosby even lived with Lemieux for the first few years.

Considering I had come all the way from Norway, I wasn't really intimidated by the distance...

It's nice to know there are some fellow hockey fans here. I remember watching the Stanley Cup while I was living on Hawaii. I've never felt more out of touch.

24 hrs to go... I need rest to get ready!

Well putting it into that perspective, I guess Plattsburgh and Buffalo aren't that far from each other after all!

I live in a relatively rural part of Virginia where not many folks care for hockey, so I can understand how alienated you must have felt in Hawaii. I'm really grateful for the NHL Center Ice package, so I can see all my Sabres games!

If it were the Sabres heading into Game 1, I would be too excited to rest! What are your predictions? I'm really not sure, this one's a tough call!

Yes, Center Ice is truly excellent. I prefer the American commentators, so I'm quite happy about NHL offering it to Europeans, as well.

I'm not really sure about anything, but I do like the fact that Crosby's back. Speaking from a semi-neutral point of view, I would say that Pittsburgh has a fair chance. I think it's pretty open, though.
The new regulations have made it much more fun and exciting, I think. The pace is unbelievable, more goals and relatively evenly matched teams.

It's going to be a few good weeks, regardless of how the Pens do or that Buffalo failed to qualify!

I can't say I've heard any European commentators. What is it about the American commentators that you like? After living in Buffalo for so long, I have to say I miss the Canadian commentators... unless I'm watching a Sabres game, then I most certainly prefer Rick Jeanerette! He cracks me up!

I agree that it's pretty open. The competition is fierce this year! I agree it will be entertaining regardless of who's in it now or at the end.

Apparently my excitement messed with my sense of time, I tried to say only a few minutes to go...

So far, so good.

Yes, I probably should have said Canadians. I agree with that. You're all the same to us Europeans, though!

I think it's largely because it's close to the game. It seems superfluous to have someone in a studio in Sweden commentate, when there are already commentators present at the arena.

I don't think Mike is happy about us taking over the thread, so I'll call it a night.

Maybe we should create a separate hockey thread, there are bound to be other fans out there...

Have a good one!

TV Shows I watch are:

Dr. Who- the new episodes on NFLX
Family guy
Top Gear (US)
Archer
Pawn Stars
The Walking Dead

I always thought I didn't watch TV hardly at all but after looking at my list and a couple other random shows on there I guess it's more than I thought.

Love Tim Allen's new sitcom "Last Man Standing". He is an outdoorsy, sporty, manly kind of guy, living in a household full of women, namely his wife and 3 teen age girls. Very funny, well written show. Pretty much the same formula as his old show "Home Improvement", and just as entertaining.

I don't think I saw anyone mention 'Rules of Engagement'. Extremely funny sitcom about a group of 30 something's married, engaged, and single, living in New York. It is in it's 6th season right now. At least 3 or 4 roll on the floor laughing moments every episode. Saturday Night Live alumnus David Spade plays one of the characters, and is very funny as usual, as well as all the cast.

I started watching this after you posted about it. I started with season 1, and I always know the first season is generally the hardest in terms of character development/acting, etc, but you are right - I have laughed out loud many times, it is a great show

I've never been a huge David Spade fan. My favorite character is Jeff. He is awesome!

Glad you like it. I like the character Adam, he is so clueless, he is totally hilarious.

Just finishing it's 2nd season. If you like action, thrills, intrigue, spies, gadgets, decent story lines, excellent fight choreography... and it's obviously easy on the eyes too
