It seems there are some pretty intelligent people here within a high stress position by no accident. As with any stress, it must be cleared out to retain a level head to be profitable. So what do you do to blow off steam?

Personally, I've done a few things. Burned off excess fuel in the gas tank by testing top speed and cornering G's in my car, martial arts for a few years (muay thai and Gracie Jiu Jitsu), and now practice a just a weapons form, the bo staff, but don't use my hands, just contact body contact to manipulate it and direct it, almost on a daily basis. And my wife and I go to the gym once or twice a week.

The staff art, contact staff, looks kinda like this: (not me)

So what do you to enjoy your day after the trading hours?

After moving from trading ES to Euro Futures my life got a lot better. To start with I do not need to be in front of my computer all day any more.
I start trading at 4:00AM-6:30AM EST, or from 8:00AM-11:30AM EST . In most cases I can make 2-3 trades and I'm done.
Just by making changes in my schedule I have reduced my stress a lot. To keep me busy after trading I teach sport of fencing to kids and adults. I also continue my own training 3-4 times every week and compete locally. I love fencing since nothing can take stress out then a sharp weapon in once hand. Plus have been doing the same many years.
Fencing is great cardiovascular activities and helping to stay in shape, control good focus and reaction. I think most of it can be applied to trading.
If there are other fencers on this forum please let me know.

Gregory

Riding my bike is great for stress (but gas prices are not helping), pumping some iron is also good 2 days a week, mountain bike when possible, I'm a chess player (good to learn how to stay focus for a few hours looking at the same thing), also like photography a lot, like to build electronic stuff (my sound system is home made) and... I'm looking to buy a guitar. Is that enough?

I prefer to surf. I've surfed all my life and come to realize that nothing in the world can change you more mentally than being away from it all in the ocean. Sure, I golf, play tennis, soccer (football), run, etc. but nothing compares IMO to being in the ocean, it wipes away all the stress.
