It seems there are some pretty intelligent people here within a high stress position by no accident. As with any stress, it must be cleared out to retain a level head to be profitable. So what do you do to blow off steam?

Personally, I've done a few things. Burned off excess fuel in the gas tank by testing top speed and cornering G's in my car, martial arts for a few years (muay thai and Gracie Jiu Jitsu), and now practice a just a weapons form, the bo staff, but don't use my hands, just contact body contact to manipulate it and direct it, almost on a daily basis. And my wife and I go to the gym once or twice a week.

The staff art, contact staff, looks kinda like this: (not me)

So what do you to enjoy your day after the trading hours?

After moving from trading ES to Euro Futures my life got a lot better. To start with I do not need to be in front of my computer all day any more.
I start trading at 4:00AM-6:30AM EST, or from 8:00AM-11:30AM EST . In most cases I can make 2-3 trades and I'm done.
Just by making changes in my schedule I have reduced my stress a lot. To keep me busy after trading I teach sport of fencing to kids and adults. I also continue my own training 3-4 times every week and compete locally. I love fencing since nothing can take stress out then a sharp weapon in once hand. Plus have been doing the same many years.
Fencing is great cardiovascular activities and helping to stay in shape, control good focus and reaction. I think most of it can be applied to trading.
If there are other fencers on this forum please let me know.

Gregory

Riding my bike is great for stress (but gas prices are not helping), pumping some iron is also good 2 days a week, mountain bike when possible, I'm a chess player (good to learn how to stay focus for a few hours looking at the same thing), also like photography a lot, like to build electronic stuff (my sound system is home made) and... I'm looking to buy a guitar. Is that enough?

I prefer to surf. I've surfed all my life and come to realize that nothing in the world can change you more mentally than being away from it all in the ocean. Sure, I golf, play tennis, soccer (football), run, etc. but nothing compares IMO to being in the ocean, it wipes away all the stress.

Wipes it away? More like eats it away. I was all about the ocean before I almost became dinner for a shark while ocean kayaking. Been back once on a yacht and went swimming off the Florida Key's and just couldn't enjoy it. I've been stabbed, sliced open, and hit with grenade shrapnel. Gotten over all of that to go back into the fray with no problems or hesitation. But never again will I try my hand at enjoying the ocean at a depth more than waist deep. At least then I can see it coming.

About 200 yards offshore by the North Carolina Onslow area. I was cruising along, enjoying the waves and the fin just cut right by me with a large black body. Got out of the water with a quickness.

On days like today, nothing better than a few hours in the gym lifting heavy things.

Onslow? Former Marine? I was body surfing at Murtle Beach one time and saw (twice within 1/2 hr) good size sharks in the waves, within yards of me. Scared the heck out of me but the lifeguards said it was no big deal.

I was filmed at a performance in South Austin a bit ago. Not too shabby I think. Here's a vid for those interested.

Calling @Gary to come comment on P90x, I know he is on it... cough cough... Gary!!!

However, P90x discussion should probably be in this thread:

I'm still on Power 90; not graduated yet. I like it because you can do it at home, 30 minutes, don't need anything but your arms and legs. Consistency is key. Just like trading.

BAM

oh.. and...

POW

Gary

Started gardening last year too. Grew 7 chest high basil plants, green onions, red peppers, and potatoes. We had enough basil to make basil salads every day and it probably saved us $100+ in fresh produce.

This year I'm growing romaine lettuce, broccoli, carrots, green onions, basil, red peppers, cucumbers, peas, and red bulb onions.

Listening and playing music, i play the guitar.
And last but not least i take a few 10 km runs every week.
My next hobby will be sailing, if i can find some time .
