I personally started a raw food diet about 1.5 years ago but due to children have strayed a bit.
I was 5'10" 175 lbs. triathlete, ex-wrestler, marathoner etc..
I was doing cross-fit and very competitive and would always come in at 1st through 3rd place among everyone. My wife is Japanese and we eat compared to the average American VERY HEALTHY! Tons of vegetables in every meal, no milk, no butter, etc...
Anyways, my trading mentor is big on intestines and raw food so I switched to a Raw food diet. For the first week I felt great! The 2nd week I felt weak when doing my workouts. The 3rd week I had recovered. By about 6 weeks, I was beating everyone in cross-fit by at least 5-10 minutes! This is in a 30-50 minute workout where previously I would be coming in barely in front of the pack!
My weight had dropped from about 168 the 2nd week to 152 the 6th week! Every muscle in my body was popping out and I had not weighed that much since I was wrestling in High School. (I am guessing my body fat % was in the range of 5%)
The reason we stopped was my wife was breastfeeding and it was too challenging to maintain such a strict diet. I had more energy, thought better, was less pessimistic and tired etc...
Also, the most amazing thing was that I would finish my workouts not even winded while beating everyone by so much. People thought I had shortened the workout (cheated) and or was taking drugs!
If you have weight issues:
1. Get a colonic. Elvis Presley's colon was 43 lbs. when he died!
2. Eat Raw food diet.
3. Take Fiber w/ guargum and clean out your upper intestines! There is probably 10 lbs. of a rubber o-ring attached to your intestines which keeps you from getting ANY nutrients from your food. Hence the reason you are still hungry after eating all the shite food they serve up to Americans.
Do yourself and go back to your high school photo books and notice how skinny everyone was. It is because we were not eating Genetically Modified Substances that not only grow our food, but grow us at the same time.
interesting wonder what happen to your body at the first and second week. My wife is strongly in no meat = no energy camp so we are on meat and fish diet day in day out.
Well, I thought so too. She is basically wrong in my opinion, however there are some people I have met that says the same thing that have supposedly tried.
I had a friend who had a colonic after being a vegetarian for 3 years. hadn't eaten meat at all.
The biggest piece of stuff that was recognizable was guess what.... Nice Steak piece...
Contestants on the biggest loser have lost more than most folks weigh.
Can you imagine if they found an intact caveman frozen in a glacier and they were able to thaw him out and bring him back to life and you tell him you are on a raw diet and he says.. "In my day we invented fire so we wouldn't have to do that... what happened?"
Eating healthy and exercising has it's limits . When I was in the ICU recovering from a heart attack, the guy in the bed next to me was a Vegan Yoga instructor who was recovering from a heart attack. He was really bummed.

Well, alright that guy Clinton has lost some weight but what's up with his mouth/lip ? That doesn't look healthy.
Is he still smoking cigars ? ;-)
Also one remark for people who are actually are thinking about following this diet: Drinking those shakes to fill up the things you miss because of not eating meat/fish, THEY ARE BAD FOR THE KIDNEYS.
BTW: Monica Lewinsky is 37... seem like just yesterday that she was crawling around on the floor of the White House, putting everything in her mouth. Seems like they grow up so fast...

I bet you wouldn't have needed to lose 70 lbs. if your diet was a bit healthier from the 'get-go'. I agree w/ your thoughts on losing weight.
However, on the vegan yoga dude, certain people take it to a limit and it becomes unhealthy! Everyone's body is different and we should not all be on the same diet in my opinion. However, that does not mean that we shouldn't change/mutate our current eating and exercising habits.
Genetics still plays the biggest role in our overall longevity.
I had an appraiser whose whole family had died by 50 due to coronary heart disease. The guy was around 39/40 and I asked him if he had had a doctor look at his heart. He said that he will have the first heart attack then deal with it.
Well, I called him out for an appraisal a few months later and voila.... Not available. He ended up almost being a vegetable. One that can't be eaten.
Actually, I gained the weight after the heart attack. I was used to exercising ( I was riding my Mountain Bike when I had the heart attack) and not being able to walk around for months plus all the fluid retension and the meds all took their toll. But I'm back to the weight I was at before it all started so there ya go.
The cardiologist said , "Ya'll were genetically predisposed to cardiac disease."

Haha.... No worries. You are a rarity as far as Americans go when losing 70 lbs.
I go back home to visit family (well I used to) and I can't believe how 'super-sized' everyone is. I feel like smurf and they are going to eat me.
All my highschool buddies are all FATTTTTT. My girlfriend (from highschool) was so fat that when she contacted me via facebook 1.5 years ago that I couldn't recognize who she was (she had a different last name).
Not my place to judge others, but I am concerned over the obesity issue, especially the children!
The shakes are not bad for your kidneys.
Too much protein, whether from a shake or meat, will put your body into a state known as ketosis.
Prolonged ketosis is hard on your kidneys. But a shake with a moderate amount of protein has less protein than a typical portion size of meat.
Protein shakes as a supplement to a diet are fine.
They can be a quick source of a meal, especially when combined with flax meal, and greens+.
I make them ahead of times when I expect to be busy during an eating period.
Helps me keep my blood sugar stable throughout the day.
Yes, anyone can argue against healthy eating as they will typically find the 1 unscientific approach to why it doesn't work.
Kind of like the guy from Texas (Politician) saying that Gun Control makes less sense than taking spoons away from people as "Guns don't kill people", "Spoons don't kill people"...
It's the bullets that kill people... why don't they let folks buy all the guns they want ... and just don't sell them bullets... just like when they arrest folks for burning the US flag... why don't they just pass a law that all flags have to be non-flammable.. Deep Thoughts fromTMFT
"I have all the guns I need... but not all the guns I want"... Phil Grahm (at the time... Senator from Texas)
"I didn't go to work that day... the voices in my head said to stay home and clean the guns.. " ...TMFT when explaining how he left the corporate world and became a trader
