What do you think about Wikileaks and the world wide bountyhunt on Julian Assange?

My opinion:
1. Don't blame Julian Assange for leaking information, blame those who put it on paper or leaked it to him.
2. I don't think that everybody has to know everything, and i could get dangerous (depending on the info)

hey ryan,

maybe arrange this as a anonymic poll if you want to know what folks here think about this.
its not common on futures.io (formerly BMT) to speak loud about politics-stuff.

and of course not about such hot topics - one would be uncovered as anarchist pretty fast

we are not in an european place here, futures.io (formerly BMT) is US-based

Maybe it is a big show to manipulate people opinions by disclosing some information and he works for CIA!

I'm undecided. I think too many government secrets are a threat to freedom and liberty. But I have my doubts that Wikileaks is a watchdog or whistle-blower. Based on the fact that he is not American, I have to question whether his motives are to embarrass the United States rather than to hold it accountable to the people. A true media watchdog would only leak government secrets for the purpose of strengthening the country and protecting liberty. I would applaud him if this is what he were doing, but I fear it is not the case.
I have serious reservations about how the government handles this. Freedom of speech is sacred. The government runs the risk of crossing into fascism if they are not very careful. The line between patriot and traitor is often not clear until viewed in hindsight. Often the difference is only a matter of who wins in the end.

Posting stolen material that is supposed to remain secret, for good reason, is not free speech. It is also illegal to receive stolen material

What if that "stolen" material indicated that everything you thought about your government was wrong. That your being lied to right now and that the entire banking world is a sham and we are living a lier, would you rather know or go through life not knowing. I am not biased on this jsut curious on peoples opinion of that. In theory watergate ect would never have been exposed except for "stolen" material. IMO in america we should stop being lied to by our government. The corruption is rampant and sometimes things need to be done. Allot of times documents have gotten leaked in the past not from this guy but good old American companies that caused the FDA etc to take action to protect the welfare of people using those product because the companies are so crooked they cared more about profits than truth. I certainly feel the government is the same,

I totally agree. There is a lot of noise, about privacy, and government abuse of secrecy, and there is for sure some truth in that, but bottom line,

Someone stole it because they didn't like a policy, and sold it, and wikileaks received and paid for stolen property. Both acts are criminal regardless of the other issues.
