Do you suggest we abolish the TSA?

A big emphatic "YES!"
Because they are above the law. What recourse do you have against the TSA??? NONE! What??? Are you going to sue them!?!??! They are like the playground bully taunting, "OOOhhhh... I'm sooo afraid.". The government has made it illegal for citizens to defend themselves against the government. That is what I call absolute power.

We're reaching the point where people are more afraid of the TSA than they are of terrorists.
We have long been at the point where most citizan's are more afraid of the IRS than they fear any criminal. Wouldn't you say that's a problem? But it's OUR problem, not the government's problem, so they will never change.

Put security in the hands of the airlines. I can guarantee you they would have already responded aggressively to quench the public's anger. If not, they go out of business. Fear of failure is a powerful motivator. The TSA has absolutely no fear of the public.

According to the original poster:

You're kidding... right? I'm sure nobody at the TSA is losing any sleep tonight over it. And tomorrow, nothing will be different. Or the day after tomorrow. Or the day after that.
If any other person in this country did the things that these Federal police are doing, they would immediately end up in jail for sexual assault! If you are ever unfortunate to be the victim of a violent crime, make sure you threaten to call your lawyer and see if the criminal cowers in fear before you.

Ask any local police officer what would happen if they were to randomly stop people and perform an "enhanced patdown". What makes an airport any different? If it's OK to do this in airports, then why not every government building in the country? In fact, let's put full-body resonant scanners at each entrance of every school building in America. Ooh... and we'll have Federal police randomly pull kids aside and feel them up... and down... right in front of their peers. But it's OK if it keeps them safe.
Had you told me the day after 9-11 that this is where we were going, I'd say you'd taken a hit to the head. As is, I fear the terrorists have already won.

The bottom line here is that if I were to go to an airport with my family, any TSA agent could touch my wife or daughter in a matter that I feel is inappropriate and I would be powerless to stop it. That makes me nothing more than a slave of the state.

Hey Skipknot,

I share you frustration and anger whey you have to say, "hey TSA, don't touch my JUNK!" But you need to look at it more closely. Just like reading a chart, some times you have to see the forest from the trees.

I'm sure you and I realize the markets we trade are a "rigged" game, just like how the FEDS rig the interest rates. This TSA event is rigged as well. The workers are like you and me, we need a job to feed our families....sure there's always that small percentage that are perverts, but most are like average Americans trying to get by life.

Your anger and frustration needs to be directed at the Obama Administration, the head of TSA, and the head of HSA. They basically SET the policy....and the troops HAVE to obey.

Watch Star Wars...the Storm Troopers use to be the GOOD GUYS, but when EVIL took over the leadership, the storm troopers became the BAD GUYS... think about it...

You're right... they're "only following orders". Same excuse the Nazi's used.
Ever heard of the Milgram Experiment? (I've linked to Wikipedia). Better yet, do a search on YouTube and you can actually watch the experiment being performed. The bottom line: 60% of test subjects would inflict pain to the point of death upon a fellow human being simply because they were told to by an anonymous man in a white coat.
Never underestimate the response of seemingly "normal" people once they've been given power and authority over others. Power is intoxicating. It manifests itself in terrifying ways in politics, business, education, law enforcement, military, religious institutions & even the home. I think it's fair to say that historically, the greatest violations of human rights almost always come at the hands of the very people who are supposed to protect them.

On the lighter side: I recently read about a man who when receiving an "enhanced patdown", decided to make use of the inherent homophobia most American men have. He made like he was gay and flirted liberally with the TSA agent. Needless to say, the patdown was very brief.
The publicity this issue is receiving has also made a heyday for many inventors. I've seen everytihng from t-shirts with the 4th amendment in metallic ink (so that it will be clearly visible in the scanner) to underwear with metallic fig leaves covering one's naughty bits.
And this is an exhibitionist's dream come true. There are countless reports of people stripping down to nearly nothing before even getting to the screener. I guess some have decided to make it as uncomfortable for the TSA as it is for the travellers. God bless America!

OH! and we can't neglect to mention the latest buzz word for enhanced patdowns: "Gate Rape". LOL
