Personally I run Windows 7 and have been since the early betas. Is great so far, although I would probably be running Ubuntu on my primary desktop if it weren't for the triple-monitor desktop issues that still remain.
I was running Ubuntu 9.10 on my notebook up until recently switching to Seven once RTM is gold. I missed things like my fingerprint reader working 100%. With 7, it just worked instantly. With Ubuntu, even after 4 hours and editing 10 text files with a bunch of code and 20 command line functions, it still didn't work reliably My notebook is a Thinkpad t61p btw, incase you were wondering.
I completely switched up a year or so ago, got rid of my HP PC and went with an Imac, got a 20" screen and also have attached to it a 23" wide screen monitor. I am working on building my trading workstation which will have multiple monitors... just rounding up the parts I need to get it going..
But I run VMWare Fusion, which is an application to run Windows, and then from that I run my trading software (ninja trader) it works extremely well, once a week or so I can back it up by just copying 1 file which contains the entire operating system, and files needed. Very nice...
Then I can switch to a different workspace, and have the multiple charts on different workspaces, it works very well...
Still running XP, and a few flavors of Linux on a different hardrive for fun. So far, only a couple of programs I've looked at (games) require Vista. (games made by microsoft...hmmmm)

I run a Mac Desk Pro. Been in the computer business since before 1980. Ran CPM, predates MS DOS. ran Dos 1, up to DOS 5. I have an old copy old windows 1, never ran it. Ran windows 3.0,3.1, Win NT 3.51, NT 4.0, skipped over Windows 95... Supported UNIX systems and have run and installed Linux systems.
Switched over to MAC Day after Thanksgiving 2008. Got tired of messing around with new additional video cards to add monitors. Threw all Windows based machines out the door then.
My MAC has 16 gig of ram.. Can populate all the way up to 32 gig.... It supports four duplex HDMI video cards; so I can support eith monitors, built in RAID, dual gigabit ethernet cards, don't need to add anything. People say MAC's are expensive.... Go price a PC machine that can be expanded to that level.
I Trade using TOS charts runs natively in MAC, run Tradestation and Ninja on VMware with 5 gig dedicated to the Windows machine....
Never get blue screens and for you UNIX people that have been looking for a good graphics package that runs on top of UNIX... it is called the MAC. All of your UNIX commands work inside the terminal window.
Love my MAC... oh, one more thing... the MAC commercials are a whole lot more fun to watch when you are on this side of the equation.
You have what I am in the process of building.....
What you now need is 8 30" mac cinema displays!! (look how much $$$$$ those cost)
I have a mac-book pro, which I use when I am not at home, it works ok, its a 15" screen, loaded up with 4 GIG of ram, but I am going to expand it to 6 GIG, as I am now running snow leopard.
Do you have any issues running VMWare and Ninja trader? How does the multi-screen work for you?? It works fine on my iMAC, this only has 6 GIG of ram, with 2 GIG dedicated to the winblows XP VMimage. Ninja Trader works well, very fast, and no issues suspending the VM.
And I like it as i can switch spaces and have other things going on, and then just switch back to the space where my charts are at.
I am in the process of determining the specs for the mac-pro tower unit. Once I get the mac-pro I will start adding my multi-monitors. What do you have for monitors?
Best buy had a 23" acer, for under 200.00 I may just buy several of these, they look nice and can mount them, very good display...
