In my life there have been women and there have been dogs. No matter what time I got home ... no matter what shape I was in... the dog was ALWAYS glad to see me...

I love dogs and my family has 6 (unfortunately)!! 4 inside and 2 outside. But because I'm single, I go back and forth as to whether I will eventually own one some day.
But my favorite breeds right now for indoor/outdoor family pets are labs and collies/shetland sheepdogs.
In the past, I've been fascinated with Akbash Dogs for working guard dogs (patrolling your property or protecting livestock).
glad to find this thread; we have been thinking about getting a dog. have never had a dog before. worried that the dog will want to go out for a wee just when i am focussing on a trade. we live in an apt. there are two balconies the size of large bathrooms. i wonder if i could somehow train the dog to wee out there in a kiddie pool?? can dogs be trained to wee in a certain spot? our cat died this year and i do find myself a bit lonely at home while the kids are at school with no living creatures for company. (the kids want a dog rather than a cat).

Sorry you lost your cat. I have a couple of cats now. My family had an Alaskan Husky a long while ago. He was strong and made (and trained to pull a sled; rescued from spca) to pull something and work unfortunately there was no work for him to pull
