1) She didn't pay income tax until public outcry forced her to do so (voluntarily) in the 1990s.
2) Her will is secret, as are all wills for the direct Royal Family. Therefore her REAL assets remain a secret, rather than the Crown assets that are trotted out to make it look like she doesn't have 'much.'
3) Oh yes, she also doesn't pay any inheritance tax unlike normal plebs who have to pay approx 40% of all assets above a value of approx £500k.
4) She has successfully lobbied in secret to have her assets kept a secret.
https://www.theguardian.com/uk-news/2021/feb/07/revealed-queen-lobbied-for-change-in-law-to-hide-her-private-wealth
5) As the link in 4) shows, despite what we are told it is possible for the Monarch to interfere with the laws and bills of a democratically elected ruling party.

Other than that, nothing to see here

A left wing newspaper wrote an anti-monarchy article what a surprise.

She served her country tirelessly for seventy years working right up until the day she died aged 96, decades after most people have retired. The Royal Family, and principally her, have done a huge amount for tourism in this country and the soft power promotion of the UK around the world.

King Charles is taking on his main job aged 73, again after most people have retired, which he will do until he dies, or becomes incapable of working. And that is after decades of expressing his environmental concerns long before it became mainstream (as did Prince Philip), and setting up the Prince's Trust which has helped thousands of young people over the years alongside his calendar of royal duties.

Prince William and Princess Catherine, Princess Anne and Prince Edward all work tirelessly and continuously representing this country and promoting the dozens and dozens of charities they all work for, and bringing joy to the members of the public they meet while performing their duties.

Apart from Prince Andrew who appears to have liked the celebrity lifestyle, the Royal Family aren't siphoning off the country's assets for themselves or in anyway financing some hedonistic lifestyle for themselves unlike some third world leader bankrupting their country, yet invariably beloved by the left.
They are just people who love their country and work tirelessly for it for their whole lives from when they are children (as Prince William's young children are starting to do now), up until the day they die.

How much of your life have you spent serving the greater good of your country?
Really, she only died a few day's ago, can't you people at least give it a rest until after the period of mourning and her funeral and burial.

You do not win as a trader, you just get to play again the next day. If that game doesn’t appeal to you then you should not trade. Gary Norden

I also have harsh view on the royalty system running parallel with democratic one, and if I spoke my mind out, it would be way too biased considering my country is one of the victims of colonization.

But, if I keep my mind clear, I feel like agreeing with Mathews sentiments above, we don't really need to mock the dead.

I like this community as it has maintained its purity in intent to be geared towards trading in positive ways, so lets keep politics off even in the off-topics.

Good idea. Saved me the trouble of saying it, too.

I'm sorry but I must have missed the bit where I was mocking the Royal Family and the Queen. I respect the fact that someone's mother/grand mother has died because she is a human being like any other. But that is all she is. I'm assuming you've said I am mocking her in an attempt ro make me look bad. I am simply detailing some facts regarding how the Queen has essentially rigged the market, something I thought traders would be curious to know about!

I am a patriotic English man who finds the idea of someone being universally revered just because they have the correct Mum or Dad to be absolutely ridiculous. Combine that with the huge wealth that they have amassed from the British people (and elsewhere) whilst not being shackled with the same financial burdens and constraints is something that I think is important that more people need to know about in order to form an accurate overall opinion of the Royal Family.

It's quite baffling to me that traders whose results are based on hard work and taking risks in order ro make a living would be so supportive of a situation where the market is essentially rigged in favour of just one person and their family.

As for the link from a 'left wing newspaper'-so what? I also reas the Daily Mail (a pro Royal right wing paper). When you read both sides you find that they do not print stories that go against the core beliefs of their readership. So the Daily Mail would never print that story, while the Guardian will never print a story that is in favour of a Tory Brexiteer. You have to read both (and others) in order to stay properly informed otherwise you're in a bubble.

As for the idea that the Royals are hard working see here.https://www.republic.org.uk/hard_working_royals

Oh wait don't tell me it's from a source that is critical of the Royals so isn't a credible source!

As for what is allowed to be discussed in the off topic section then the clue is possibly in the title. 'Off topic.' It sounds as if you don't want me to discuss something because you don't agree with my opinion which is a bit different.

So, to summarise, I am sad that an elderly woman who is a mother and grandmother has died. However I think that a lot of people don't know just how much she and her family have amassed in secret and for a real understanding of her role and who she/the Royal Family really is, then these financial details need to be laid bare. Otherwise it's just spin.
Have a nice day everyone.

My apologies, I think word "mock" might have been a little too strong from me. Also was not my intention to make you look bad.

Not long ago we did have a poll/thread regarding "should politics be discussed here" or something like that on this forum. From my understanding, even then the intention behind that discussion was to avoid "hot potato" kind of topic which will create divide within the community.

I did not mean anything else by it.

No problem at all and thanks for the reply, they're all opinions in the end anyway
I was unaware of the poll but don't think that the Royal Family/Queen is a political issue but there you go, opinions again eh?

I did not mean anything else by it.

The poll, conducted in January of 2021, asked "Should civil discourse about politics be allowed on FIO?"

The option "No, never, absolutely not" got 65% of the vote. There were various comments posted, one of which was "There are plenty of places on the Internet to argue politics," and there are.

This has been adopted as a rule, and since then, as needed, it has been enforced. There is no room for political discussion on futures.io. This also, by the way, has been the experience of the moderators over time: little or no good has ever come from politics on the forum.

With that said, many things can be political or non-political, depending on the point of view, so, as always, application of the rule often involves moderator judgment.

This thread is in some ways on the edge of what would be regarded as political. If the intent is to simply disclose financial facts about royal finances, that is one thing, and possibly it is relevant to traders in general. If the point of view is either disapproving or approving, in the context of either critics or supporters of the monarchy in the UK, that is injecting a political view, and debate, into the forum, and this is not the place for it.

Everyone's opinions are their own, and they have a right to them. But I hope I have made this policy clear: no politics on futures.io, please.

Thanks.

Bob.

I don't wish to extend this discussion, just to politely correct some terminology.

There is no Queen of "England".

It is the "United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland", because it includes the countries of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.

So informally, it's the "British Queen" or "the Queen of Britain" or the "British monarch".
