The whole thing is stupid and I simply tune it all out. I tune almost everything out these days and give 0 you know what about it.
In public I'm cordial and say thank you or whatever. I don't even think about addressing someone I don't know by their gender.
Not because I'm avoiding it but simply because it's not necessary. Checking out at the grocery store a "Thank you" works great.
No need to say anything else. I don't like small talk with strangers (in public). It's meaningless and most of the time it annoys me.
Just give me whatever I purchased I thank you, you thank me, etc. and we move on. I'm very much a no bullshit type of guy.
If I say something that offends you then tell me and I will take note and respect your perspective. Everyone sees the world
with varying perspectives. That will never change. Saying mate, bud, man, dude etc. to friends or people I know then absolutely.
I use those words everyday. I'm not going to call someone bud when I don't even know them.
