This thread is for posting members views on natural ways to boost your immunity. As the body is a complex set of systems your immune system is only part of your body's systems and there is an interconnection between general health and your immune system.

I ask posters to be open to others views and not devolve the thread through attacks.

You may have a different view than another poster. Please simply express your view without reference to anothers post.

I would like the thread to be open and friendly so more timid posters are not dissuaded from posting by watching attacks on others.

You do need to quote studies or reports and are free to simply post your thoughts on the subject of boosting the immune system.

Let's keep the tone friendly and helpful. There may be many who do not know of the ways to strengthen one's immune system, and it can be vert helpful to have the information and alternative.

Here is my list of ideas for strengthening your immune system (amounts where given are what I use).
  • 4,000 IU of Vitamin D
  • 3,000 mg of Vit C (6,000 when challenged - cold coming on etc)
  • 50-100 mg of zinc citrate
  • 100 mg selenium
  • a good mutivitamin (I used Swizz Mens' 50+ the 50+ give more at the same cost. The Swizz brand has fewer additives and no iron. I like this because iron buildup is a problem for men over 25 and post menopausal women - unless they donate blood. If you are hypotensive - low blood pressure donating blood can be dangerous and even trigger a heart attack)
  • getting lots of good quality sleep (especially when your body says you need it
  • fresh and and exercise
  • turning your shower/bath to cold at end (strengthens the lymphatic system)
  • using a rebounder (these are mini-trampolines) The bouncing energizes the lymph nodes

maintaining a positive, relaxed outlook. (stress, anger etc raises your cortisol levels. Prolonged high cortisol levels can lead to many severe illnesses including hypertension, cardiovascular disease and cancer. Prolonged high cortisol levels can lead to adrenal fatigue - reducing your immune system

Having a good diet is important.

You want to have natural foods (organic is you can afford it - especially for the "dirty dozen").
Drink lots of pure water (e.g spring water)

Do not ingest any prepared, packaged food with preservatives, chemicals, sugar, salt, hydrogenated oils, homogenized oils etc.

The more toxins you put in your body the more the body is drained of energy, your eliminating organs and systems are taxed (kidney liver, blood, etc)

Regular vigorous exercise is very important to strengthening the body's health systems.

One of the best is a vigorous walk -walking fast and energetically. If you can plaster a smile across your face so much the better.

@redbarntrades

Here is a post from redbarns. Thank-you

--------------
Start with your own immune system. Get your blood checked for vitamin and mineral deficiencies by a NATUROPATH not an MD.

MD's are trained and mostly abide in the camp of the AMA which is a distribution arm of the pharmaceutical cabal. Go see the MD's when you have broken your arm, shot in the foot or suffered an aneurism. Do not see them for well being.

Stop using hand sanitizers. Wash your hands with soap and water. Stop using chemical based soaps and deodorants. Filter your water. Use Monkfruit sweetener instead of sugar.

Consume Ascorbic Acid (vit. c) every day.

If you get sick, do an Organic coffee enema and rid the bowels of stored up waste inside your colon. The colon is the HEALTH CENTER of the body.

If your lungs start getting congested, DO NOT stop moving. Go outside and pace yourself with a good walk. Do basic exercises. Take a steam bath. Have a shot of brandy while your at it.

Your Lymph system needs movement for it to function properly . Idleness is injurious to your body. When you move, it acts like a pump for the Lymph system

Take a hot shower then cool off as cool as you can bear it til you feel you have had enough.

Check out Wim Hof on youtube. Think outside the box. Do not rely on a doctor to heal you. Learn by reading and researching and compare remedies. Be a citizen scientist.

Remember that MD's practice at medicine.

They are not all bad nor all good. Twenty years ago, my then doctor, told me that Chiropractic was voodoo. He has since changed his tune.

Why do I believe the above? Well, for 40 years I worked outside in the sub-zero weather and the above 100 deg. F. pounding nails and pouring concrete. Rarely washed my hands. Never after using the porta-potty. Etc. etc. The men that worked for me also had the same habits and still enjoy good health.

Key thing is.... It to keep in motion, get the rest needed and then get moving again!

I learned to employ the things above. Have had no need to see a MD in many decades. Take no meds and have no intention to. I take liquid trace minerals, magnesium, vit D and b12 each and everyday.

Just one man's story. Best to all!

To add to our understanding of the lymph system which is part of our immune system, here is a description of the nodes:
A small bean-shaped structure that is part of the body's immune system. Lymph nodes filter substances that travel through the lymphatic fluid, and they contain lymphocytes (white blood cells) that help the body fight infection and disease.

So why is exercise and movement so important? The lymph system does not have a pump to pump out the the nodes. Movement is the "pump".

Sounds so basic, but many do not understand this basic principle. I know, because I did not know this until I was in my 50's.

Hope this helps some. So when you get sick, yes get some rest. But on top of that, get moving. Stretches, walks or anything that stimulates your body. Run in place. Do some aerobics.

Very good recommendations Aquarian1 in these posts!
Good health to all!

Interesting topic, I had posted something recently somewhere so will be copying that below;

Quoting
What I'm about to mention below is completely my individual opinion and schedule, I've consulted my family doctor and gym nutritionist as well and I do not have any allergies to anything mentioned below.

First of all, I've had history of being sleepy during days, so much so that I've fallen a sleep during some very risky situations which could've caused accidents. I do not drink anymore (A year of soberness), I don't drink coffee more than couple of times per month for fear of addiction and I drink tea 3 times a day.

I'm a regular gym goer, I've bought some equipment for myself (came in handy during lock-downs) and I do work out for at least 4 days per week and cardio for 2 days at least. My cardio is simply taking long distance walks, no machines or running. My workout is not with heavy weights but more number of reps. I swap that program when I've access to gym where I follow typical 8-10-12 system with heavy weights.

Below is my vitamin and nutritional system.
I take
1. omega-3 (1000mg - 550mg EPA; 350mg DHA; 100mg Other Omega 3 Fatty Acids) - This is fish extracted and not flax.
2. Protein - 5 whole eggs + protein isolate with 26g per 30-32gm scoop size ones a day. Other than this I would buy ready to eat chicken breasts occasionally. Overall, my intake comes around 100 gm per day. Sometimes its less but not by much.
3. I take creatine monohydrate, simple micronized form (no pre or post workout) around 3gm scoop couple of times per week.
4. Alpha Lipoic Acid 300Mg - One capsul whenever I plan to take creatine.
5. In fruits I generally consume kiwi, apple, banana and lime/lemonade almost everyday.
6. In nuts I consume dry fruits and peanuts (not butter or shelf form, just ready to consume raw form which I heat up and eat with some jaggery)
7. Other than this I take vitamin D and C, but very sparingly, D I would take one capsule per week for 2 months and I will repeat that course twice per year). For other vitamins I would take 2-3 capsules of multivite per week but never on same or consecutive day.

I eat fast food 2-3 times per month, this will also be limited to the "one meal" only, this is my cheat or relief food which I would eat with my friends in social setting. Other than that everything I eat is homemade. Only little problem is that in my home people are still using refined oil and not olive for frying purposes and Indian food by default is not protein heavy.

Also, I strictly avoid fruit juice or any other "miracle juices".

I do however, will consume 1 teaspoon of honey when I'm craving for suger. I do not take any "Sugerfree thingy" either, I just avoid anything that has possibility of having high content of suger (both regular and artificial), you will be surprised to find out almost everything you eat off the shelf is almost as or sometimes more unhealthy than a bigmac. But don't quote me on that, go do your own label reading adventure.

I might have forgotten something, but this is the basic structure. I will also regulate this based on how my body is feeling, for example if I've had really good session of workout and my body is feeling sore overnight, I'll consume little more protein next day to help recover it.

Take what you will from this but never consume any of it without consulting a proper doctor.

Also, since I've not added in the above, unless you are suffering from some terminal illness which requires constant exposure to medicine, I would suggest to be little careful with taking antibiotics and what not. Its sometimes better to let your immune system have a go at it, its a best way to train it rather than always relying on pills to put it on overdrive. Please note that this is my personal opinion, and I think like this because there was a time in my life when I was suffering from malnutrition (41 Kg weight at age of 21) and was constantly getting sick and would always require medical attention in every other month. No doctor or anything ever addressed my overall situation with health, eventually I did my own research and when I started earning (Even though little) I always had more wholesome protein based diet, fast forward 10 years and now I'm extremely healthy with only one ittle medical issue of having eyeglasses and I don't remember last time I've been sick enough to take even crocin. A commendable achievement since where I live, even dengue and malaria is killing people in large numbers.

Understand your body first, and don't expect your immune system to be strong if you are heavily dependent on medicines or living in germ free bubble. This is not me advocating for not visiting doctor or taking medicine, this is me advocating avoid taking medicines for every little thing like occasional headache or cold. I know its controversial, but that's just my experience, if you don't have solid base with well nourished, well exercised and rested body, its more than likely you will always have weak immune system irrespective of what you take and its more than likely it will over react when you are exposed to new germs/viruses.
