I thought I'd share the best exercises, health products, etc. I've found over the years.

Vitamix Blender: It is expensive but well worth it. Any sort of premium blender would probably work but if you make your own smoothies you can decrease calories by about 50% to 70% from standard milkshake fare while getting 300% to 500% more nutrition.

Concept 2 Rowing Machine: I hate rowing but this is a great machine. What I like to do is focus on fast/short-duration explosive rows with good form or use it in a circuit.

Schwinn Airdyne: Good machine.

Wall pushups: This is a highly underrated exercise. There are many variations you can do with close grip, low grip, wide grip, fist, one leg, one arm, explosive movements, side-to-side, wider stance, etc. to increase difficulty. What's nice is you can get these in virtually anywhere and no time.

Rubberbands: Inexpensive and well worth having. They make a good variation or substitute too dumbbells.

Walking + Weighted Vest: Easy to do, start at no more then 5%-10%.

I use my blender two or three times a day. Don’t even know what brand, it’s nothing special but I can’t live without it. Fruit smoothies, vegetable smoothies, protein shakes, you name it. My favorite, and what I have just about every day around lunch, is a smoothie made of spinach and kale, a spoonful of peanut butter, half a cup of Greek yogurt, scoop of protein powder, and unsweetened almond milk.

Also, a slow cooker. I don’t know how I got by without one before. Just a great way to prepare healthy, inexpensive meat and vegetable-based dishes. On Sundays I’ll throw in a few chicken breasts, some garlic, different vegetables, let it cook six hours or so and that’s lunch for the week.

For excersicing, my equipment is pretty minimal. In my home gym I just have a few dumbbells of different weights, a medicine ball, inflatable ball and some yoga mats. I don’t do any heavy lifting I do Spartacus tabatas. One set is 40 seconds on, 20 seconds rest, repeat four times. I’ll do 4-6 sets, one minute rest in between each set. Excercises can include burpees, push ups, squat jumps, plank rows, variations of crunches and Russian twists, and kettle ball swings.

I’ll also do a couple minutes of jump rope and some 3-4 minute rounds on a freestanding heavy bag.

Joining a gym is ok, but if you really want to get serious about fitness (plus have fun and learn some necessary skills), start training in martial arts. I do krav maga and kickboxing three times a week. Krav, Brazilian jj, muay thai, and boxing are all great.

Fitness and healthy eating is a lifestyle commitment. Especially, like me, as you get older and have work and family obligations, and daily commutes, you really have to commit to making the time.

This is an 8-30 minute circuit workout workout (x3 to x6) I've designed. I haven't did this full variation yet but it takes elements from similar workouts I've liked.

1. Rowing @ 85%-100% max for 4x6 reps or 1-2 minutes
2. Body weight or jump squats 4x6 (if back problems can switch this out)
3. High knee touches 4x6 (can switch out for heel touch)
4. Wall push ups 4x6 (do different variations each time, close grip, wide grip, side-side etc).
5. Yoga with focus on heat generation sun salutations 3 to 4 minutes (drop this for shorter workout)
6. Reverse crunch or x's and 0's or heel touch 4x6 (drop this for shorter workout)

I like Sheamus' Celtic Warrior workouts for ideas. Be careful with any plyometric movements:
