I have decided on doing 1,000 continuous push-ups by 31 Dec 2018.

(I'll ad in other things like chin-ups, situps, squats and more water etc, but the goal is on the push-ups.)

Rules are: body straight, no touching the floor and you can rest/breath at the top of the push-up (i.e. arms straight)

This pushup thing is extremely cool, in my opinion.

No, I am not going to try it. Why not? I have enough trouble just getting up off the floor. Pushups, which at one time -- a good long while ago -- were basically nothing to do, are now quite a big deal (how many pushups did I do in Army Basic Training, way back when? the mind reels. But that was a very long time ago.) So I am not going to expose myself publicly in my current decrepitude....

But I have been working on what I call "floor getups." If you're not in extremely bad shape you probably wouldn't get the point, but I am, and the point is simple: get down on the floor, and then get up. Repeat. Use anything that you can to do it. Form and style are not important. Lying face down and then standing up are the only rules.

This is not hard unless you have slid down the physical fitness curve enough, but it you have, well, then you know what I mean, and why it's a challenge.

I am not going to put up a spreadsheet showing my daily goals, and I am not going to report on my progress either. I understand that a good part of the point of this "resolutions" thread is to do just that, to be publicly accountable, but I am simply not going to do it. I am too damn accountable anyhow, and I will just dodge this one.

But I will commit to being able to easily get down and up -- essentially a burbee (you can look it up), but done very, very sloppily, and somewhat slowly and definitely unathletically, but with a full chest touch to the floor -- for 50 reps by June 30, 2018. (In one set, but no time limit and pausing allowed.) That's a goal.

You will have to take my word for it if I claim that I have met the goal, and you will also have to accept my judgment of whether my form was acceptable. I also reserve the right to not report anything if I don't want to, and I also reserve the right to abandon this goal for any reason at all, and without saying anything about it.

But I'm not going to out and out lie, so, while I'm wobbling a bit about it, I actually do mean to make it. It would matter quite a bit to recover some basic physical ability, even by a modest measurement. So wish me luck. I am actually in.

Bob.

Thanks @aquarian1 I’ve meant to do something in that area for ages but never committed to it. This thread finally pushed me over the edge. I used a service called StickK for goalsetting before with tremendous success, so I will use it again here.
My better half is to be my referee. Each failure day kills a week, each failed week costs me 35 bucks that go to some charity.

As a personal type I am extremely lazy AND extremely competitive. So as long as I can get myself to creating the habit of doing the exercise every day, the reps will take care of themselves.

P.S.: I am thinking why not use this service also for trading-related commitments? ...

LOL @bobwest, you are cracking me up man

@aquarian1, you called me out haha... I do have an exercise regimen set up but have definitely slacked on it. Basically, every time I place a trade, I have to do a set of something... pushups, squats, curls, etc. The choice is mine. Got a dumbbell sitting right next to the desk for the curls and other exercises requiring freeweights. The thought process being, hey if I'm just sitting here at the computer, I may as well use the downtime for some physical improvement.

But, as mentioned, I slacked on it which has been gnawing at the back of my mind. Like @Scalpingtrader, this thread is giving me a friendly push back in that direction. Last week I implemented a schedule that would allow for trading, my business, personal time and sleep and it worked out fantastically. This week, in addition to maintaining my schedule, I will get back on my workout regimen while trading, and will report back at the end of the week.

Thanks guys!

The point of the thread was to encourage others to set a goal, any goal, and go for it.
It need not be public.

Really the goals one sets are one's own, set according to what appeals to you.
The idea is to set something that is a growth area, create a plan to get there, take action and stick with it.
The payoff is personal growth and pride in self-discipline.

There is a huge variety of things one could set:
I will be more loving to my wife (and will create the habit of giving her a hug and kiss before I go out and saying "honey I really love you.")
I will focus 100% for ten minutes on my kids when I/they come home and really listen to them about their day).

So others can simply say:
"My goal is to be more joyful"
and at the end of the year say if they have met it.

..........
peace, love and joy to you

@bobwest
Personally, I only posted the spreadsheet to encourage others set their own goals for self-improvement as the thread seem to need some juice. (If 100 other people had posted goals I wouldn't have put out the spreadsheet as the goal of pushups is for me).

The physical goals were what inspired me, so I picked one of my own. All the rest of what I wrote was just me trying to be funny.... I understand your aims, and I think they're good ones.

In this interview Jesse speaks of the month a Navy Seal came to live with him.
Min 19:90

\-----------------
In 2001, he graduated from Basic Underwater Demolitions/SEAL (BUD/S) training with Class 235. In 2004, Goggins graduated from Army Ranger School with the distinction of enlisted "Top Honor Man." His life as a SEAL has led him to operational assignments with SEAL Team FIVE, based in Coronado, California, with multiple deployments to Afghanistan and Iraq. He has also served as a close quarters combat instructor and land warfare instructor.
