I guess this is a step in the right direction.

I guess this is a step in the right direction.

We'll see what that means in real terms, as the article points out:

Quoting
It's hard to fathom that statement coming from Google, a company that's built an empire by monetizing your browsing data.

Did you ever heard about Jami ? It is like WhatsApp, Telegram etc... but it is distributed , based on peer to peer network.

This makes it quite revolutionary compared to other platforms.
Check it here : https://jami.net/

It still lacks many functionalities, for instance you cannot create groups.....but it will improve with time.

According to me these are the most challenging issues of privacy.

#1: Embedding data privacy.
#2: Proliferating devices.
#3: Increasing maintenance costs.
#4: Access control is difficult in many industries.
#5: Getting visibility into all your data.
#6: A bad data culture.
#7: The ever-increasing scale of data.

This is not really on topic for this discussion but since I've mentioned my local police force and their automated license plate reading system several times (and the weekly email from the Police of Chief) I thought this excerpt from the latest email would highlight how much technology is changing even if it isnt directly related to privacy...
This week anyone driving by might have noticed a white dome that has been placed out front of the station. The 4-foot diameter dome, that resembles a radar weather dome, is actually an automatic retractable hangar for our Drone. The department has been working with a company over the past two years on a system to automatically dispatching a drone to certain police calls and assist officers and other first responders by being able to provide ariel support.

The drone deploys to events such as burglar alarms, often before officers arrive on the scene. The drone then allows our dispatchers and other staff to view and access the situation and provide officers with details as they arrive on scene. The drone has night vision capabilities so even in the darkness of night anyone hiding on the property or leaving in a vehicle can be followed while responding officers are directed to the suspects location.

The new dome, opens and closes so the drone is protected from the weather and while it is inside of the dome it recharges the batteries, so it is ready for the next mission.
