A few years back, I read in a thread here that a couple of guys were taking regular dietary supplements that helped keep your brain healthy.

I just spent an hour or so reading old threads but couldn't find the thread. It must be my key words in the search were wrong.

Does anybody take nutritional supplements that help the brain, especially to help older brains?

I mean, I know that fish is meant to be a 'brain food', but I'm hoping that there are actually supplements out there that are not pure snake oil, with some scientific background.

Thanks.

Choline CDP. Difficult to get enough via diet. Helps with brain fog. Possible link to decreased risk of alzheimers.

Water is actually under rated by many people (myself included)

Alcar - which is a powder form of L-Carnitine. Helps with energy (you'll notice a difference in endurance workouts), and various cognitive benefits.

PS100, Huperzine A, Theanine...... If you google 'nootropics' you'll find all sorts of wonderful and weird stuff - not all of which you'll be able to legally get in the UK

CDP Choline - that's the one.

Do you have any experience with it?

Hi sixtyseven, I find this fascinating. Have you actually used any of these products and what has been your experience? I am in Australia, so will look into local distributors, but would be interested in your experience (knowing of course, that every body reacts differently). Thanks

I use Choline CDP and find its effective at reducing the brain fog. I have a young son who never sleeps, so I'm always sleep deprived, and it helps combat that.

As I'm in NZ I get up at either 1am or 3am - depending on the time of year, and the Alcar/coffee help me wake up.

I've tried a stack (supplement speak for taking all at the same time) PS100, Huperzine A, Vinpocetine, along with the Choline and alcar - I found it to be unreal for focus while driving long distances. I often got tired super quickly at the wheel. But with that stuff I could go 4-5 hours easily, then take another hit, and get another 4-5 hours. I don't think I got much benefit beyond Choline/Alcar while sitting at the desk, and so don't take all those regularly.

So, I do take the Choline (anything which reduces alzheimers probability is a good thing) and L-Carnitine. From my research you need the more expensive CDP choline - the other stuff is no where near effective. Alcar powder is cheap, mix it in some water. You learn to love the taste. Order from iHerb. Cheap and fast, even internationally.

I am a firm believer in solving the root cause of 'Things"...problems.

Many are fine with"topical" remedies or treatments masking the main issues. I can't do that. I solve the ROOT cause. This video will give you great insight to that. There are many things you can do all on your own provided you believe it and can take action...some can not I get it...some need help.

My love affair with brain health started a few years ago with this video....and I have never been the same.

My wish is it may also be of some help to you....

I also take many brain health supplements and approach this topic from many directions with different books, from the guy in the video and others, as an education source and diet etc....but it's to much to get into all at once. But IMHO this is an excellent place to start.

I spotted this tonight, you could have a lot of enjoyment with a recipe a day (or a couple a week) from the dopamine diet.
