A thread for all things .....Drone
Getting my new drone delivered on Tuesday 1/10/2017. The DJI Mavic Pro. Planning on sharing my adventures and my learnings as I'm brand new to the world of drones.
And of course I invite all to participate drone or not.

Well of course I crashed....lol....in the house .... damaged two walls. Pretty mad at myself. Good wakeup call.
First I flew the Mavic in the family room and all went very well. I can post that video tomorrow. Boy I quickly became over confident that's for sure.
So I place the Mavic into Tirpod mode and had the bright idea to fly from the family room pass by the kitchen table and down a short hallway to the foyer. BAD IDEA. Tripod mode only goes very slow and acts like a tripod. But, and I'm guessing, the air current going through a short hallway caused a slight air current disturbance? But that doesn't totally make sense to me because the Mavic started its slightly odd behavior upon entering the foyer which is exiting the hallway.
Pilot error is the real reason Ronnie. You don't know what you are doing...lol
Anyway only the walls are hurt and a few scuffs on the props. I grabbed the Mavic from the air/wall before anything super ugly happened.
Placing a mention here for @Big Mike so he can have a chuckle.
Some pics....
Here are the beat up walls... the pictures don't do it justice...lol
And the scuffs on the props.....
I have DJI Care Refresh and I also added other coverage ... because I need it. That much is for sure.

Gee I need to workout......a lot.....................lol
I really don't know what I am doing................... hence the crash yesterday..............so I have the cameras plastic protective cover on because of it..... so there is some light refraction you can see in the video.

58°F January day yesterday. First time off Beginner Mode which limits you to an altitude of 30m. Video starts at an altitude of 208 ft on a windy day. Video is remarkably stable.

Getting in some practice when the weather is nice. This day was 54°F. More comfortable and brave. Looking forward to spring and summer and missions a few miles’ distance and about 15 minutes in length. There's a few horse farms nearby to check out from 300 feet. One I have never seen except for the entrance due to all the trees and the other appears to just have one horse and a goat.
In this flight the aircraft made an altitude of ~260ft for the Return to Home function, once initiated. I set the altitude in the app for RTH to 80 meters.

Nice house Ron. To make it absolutely perfect you need 2x YZ450's all muddied and parked on your driveway right next to the latest ranger wildtrack.... oh, and some drone footage of you whipping a tabletop.
Even better, some earth moving equipment parked next to the house with your own MX track!

That flight was between 250 and 300 ft ~2000ft from the home point, take off. You can't really see it. It's just a tiny dot and you can't hear it either. If you had no idea a drone was over head no way.

Drones interest me, kinda why I followed your thread, and I've been trying to decide whether to get one. Worried I wouldn't use it enough to justify it to be honest. But then .... Santa .... just brought me a DJI Mavic Pro!

This definitely isn't an out of the box and fly experience. Obviously have to charge drone & controller but I was very surprised how long it took me to be able to fly. All in all it took about three hours to upgrade firmware (twice), get phone to connect (major issue) and then to calibrate the drone. Once I was finally read to fly, about 60 seconds after I took off I got the low battery warning. So having heard that when the battery is low, it can automatically "Return to Home" I didn't want to be courageous first time out, so I just took a couple of photos and then landed. Couldn't get video to work, or would have video'd the whole flight. So here's an overexposed picture of some of my house and backyard.

You gave my enough energy to upload my latest drone video...lol... thanks.
Thanksgiving day 2017 was very windy and I received many flight warnings regarding the conditions. At one point I just landed the craft on the road that runs in front of the house you see in the video and went and retrieved it. That video/flight was 14 min and this video is from the second flight right afterwards. It seems the Mavic split the video into two parts due to its size so the takeoff from this second flight is on that first video not this one.
The Mavic Pro is amazing in that it stays so steady in high winds but you can perceive it swaying in this video due to the wind.

I was surprised how quickly mine charged back up the other day so took it out for another 10 mins later on. It's actually very easy to get the hang of, once you get past the initial few flights. Still had it in beginner mode, and a lot of trees around us, so not an impressive video, otherwise I would post.
