responsive webdesign is a pain ... !

responsive webdesign is a pain ...

the usability goes to zero.
more and more webpages "modernize" their design
- rendering themselves useless.
every menu is different now - there is some benefit in some conventions / standards

latest, worst examples:
https://www.theice.com/index
https://www.nyse.com/index

Someone please torture this web-developer.
I can not find or read anything !

The worst part of modern web design is this trend to having a single very "long" webpage that makes you scroll endlessly. What idiot came up with that? I get that people want to sell me their idea/service/whatever on the landing page but honestly it almost always just ends up annoying me and all too often it looks quite a bit scammy. Especially when they use a common theme/art style and don't even tell me anything concrete about their product and/or service. I don't want to read success stories about how other liked it, I want to know what I'm getting and how much it will cost!

Back to web design... It's especially infuriating when there is a menu bar at the top that stays in place while you scroll down. *cough* Youtube *cough* Extra unusability points are awarded for "flat" designs that make it impossible to distinguish links from normal text. Also, websites that don't display anything without javascript or some plugin enabled... I guess they don't need my traffic/business.

Please do not confuse responsive webdesign with the layout/ design of a page which is fully at the mercy of the designer. Responsive web by itself only implies developing web pages that will render correctly on any screen so that you dont have to develop a mobile friendly site separately from a normal site. Media queries and CSS are at the root of responsive design. Responsive site doesnt mean sites that scroll infinitely or designed poorly, that is completely upto the designer and developer (you are free to torture them ).

Core Concepts

Three key technical features are the heart of responsive Web design:

Media queries and media query listeners
A flexible grid-based layout that uses relative sizing
Flexible images and media, through dynamic resizing or CSS

Truly responsive Web design requires all three features to be implemented.

"What idiot came up with that?"

@skoa Designers have to experiment with new things. When someone having the same design gets a success, withing an hour a replica is ready for competition.
