The whole universe in one photo. Solar system in the middle and edge is cosmic background radiation of the big bang. Looks like the eye of God to me.

Only 75% here in TX, wish I could have seen the Total Eclipse. None the less still very cool. First eclipse I've ever seen.

Don't worry about it! 2024 another one goes right through TX. SW to NE.

Just rolled back in from watching it floating in a lake in southern IL... stunning. Surreal. I'm still wrapping my brain around it LOL. We're also going to get the 2024 one right here at home, really looking forward to doing it again.

Another thing that was surreal was the traffic leaving 'The Path'. My wife was down in Dixon Springs State Park with some of her family for the weekend (I had to work and take care of our anti-social furbaby). The 5 hour drive home took her 12 hours (the Western KY Parkway was just about a parking lot).

I was happy to see the 95% we had here in Lexington

Aah sorry to hear that but I'm sure she had a lot of enthusiasm for what she saw. "Totality" ceases to be a term, replaced by a much deeper experience. But any eclipse action is damn cool!

There were definitely traffic snafus all over but we managed to avoid them; stayed and hung out at the lake while everyone cleared out, as is our protocol after years of attending big races, concerts, etc. In 2024 we won't have to go anywhere, just crash out here in the woods and wait for it to come to us

To me the time dilation is the freaky part. Can't get my mind around that. Of course when your traveling at just under the speed of light, wouldn't even the smallest particle rip through the ship?

Did you see the movie Interstellar? They do a nice job of incorporating that into their storyline. The time dilation effect, I mean.

So this administration (like most) has promised a lot of things, but delivered few of them, even so I was interested (excited?) to hear this announcement over the last few days...

NASA already get $20B/year, have to think that will go up if they're now going to the moon. I'm sure our financially conservative government wouldn't just increase that without paying for it, so increased taxs, offset military spending or maybe just slash Medicaid and Medicare?

In the wild frontier, off the beaten track
In the wild frontier, better watch your back
Where your dreams get real or your blood gets spilled
Gotta face your fear in the wild frontier

I don't know whether I think this is interesting or whether I think it's a waste of everybodies time and energy even making it!

edit: For clarification ... I was talking about the Flat Earthers

But that's like half of social media content now days, have you seen some app called ticktock? Damn! teenagers are going crazy over it, its face book+YouTube+insta all in one. I think things will only get worse.

On the original topic of thread, I heard a rumor recently that US plans to build space defense/force division, separate division other than air-force, I dunno numbers one would have to crunch to make that happen but it can't be small. Its ironic its called that even though no one is really competition for us and NASA for that matter.

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/08/mike-pence-create-space-force-2020-180810085611224.html

Since its aljazeera, I had to take it with some grain of salt but it does seem to be true.
