Ultimately of course Heraclitus and Spengler are right, but I was trying to avoid saying that.

I have much to learn from you, my friend. I have not studied Heraclitus or Spengler but I looked up some quotes attributed to Heraclitus and like these ones:

“Out of every one hundred men, ten shouldn't even be there, eighty are just targets, nine are the real fighters, and we are lucky to have them, for they make the battle. Ah, but the one, one is a warrior, and he will bring the others back.”
― Heraclitus

this one is so true and reminds me of another quote on pessimism... to paraphrase it " A pessimist would never land on the moon"

“Whoever cannot seek the unforeseen sees nothing for the known way is an impasse.”
― Heraclitus

this man is very true.

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it's not the same river and he's not the same man.”
― Heraclitus

I wonder if you are familiar with Project can read and download very old books on a variety of subjects. Here is a link:

Fascinating how modern problems of today, were pondered in slightly different terms hundreds of years ago.

This is not a rant but rather a very interesting study presenting the usefulness of many many species of birds and animals .... it should be required reading today by many IMHO....nothing much has changed

@Underexposed, great post, thanks.

Sadly H's best line is 'war is the natural state of mankind'.

My favourite borrowed ones are (anon to me) 'a pessimist is an optimist with experience', and Hawkeye's 'an instant dislike saves time'.

Have to go pacify the lady of the house with grape juice, have a great evening, Cheers.

Travel Well

I wouldn't doubt that at some point in the future we will long for such "tough" times as these right now when the hardest decision is to buy an apple or android.
The plight of the middle class only being able to afford a new Nissan or Toyota and not a BMW or jag.

Ebola rears its head in North America

@NoiseTrader716 That could be closer than you think, with the spread of Ebola to North America.

It is hard to understand the actions of the "Bright Light" that allowed a nurse, who treated the man who died of Ebola in Texas, who confessed to a mild fever, to travel and attend a wedding in Cleveland (I think that was the city).

I wonder how many relatives at that wedding kissed her? Hopefully the whole wedding party is under quarantine.
