He appears to be, how shall I say, marginally impressed...

Does Larry's name have a story? I find people look at me weird when I tell them the names of my pets.

My first pet (as an adult) was "Jack", the cat. His name was selected because of his love of being in boxes. "Jack in the box"

Jack when we found him, almost 11 years ago:

Then came the dogs (my true love) and the first was named Tyler. His rescue name was Tye, which I was not a fan of. So it was slightly changed to Tyler. I do call him Tye, usually when he is in trouble...

Tyler, almost 10 years ago:

When it came time for the second dog, I already had two pets with human names. I treat my pets like family, they are my kids. It felt wrong to name them typical pet names like "fluffy", just like you wouldn't name your son or daughter that.

When I rescued the second lab, her name was Goldie from the rescue. I didn't like that (again, too much a "pet" name). I changed it to Molly, and she is my baby girl.

Molly the day the rescue group brought her to my house for the meet and greet, 7 years ago:

Next came Dexter. I knew I wanted a third lab, and I knew I wanted a boy, and I knew I wanted chocolate so I could have one of each (black, yellow, chocolate). I searched for months to find the right personality.

Dexter's first day home, 2.5 years ago:

Sorry for a dog post in the cat thread

Wow, I realized all of your pets are very well kept with short hair. That must be a breeze compared to having the equivalent in long hair with that amount.

I initially named my cat something strange like Onix or linxy trying to be original and then one night, maybe a few days or a week after getting him, I don't know how it happened, but the name Larry came to mind. I thought it was very funny because it's a human name, but it's auxiliary connotation is of extra-ordinary plainness which makes for an oxy-moron of sorts with this creature's personality. In layman's terms, the name just fit so completely right if you were in the moment and saw how emotionally receptive this cat can be akin to humans. Why do I call my animals human names (I've had other cats named Sammy and Ashley I named myself too)? I guess I just strive to make them as close to a human family member as possible. When I started treating Larry the way I wanted to be treated as an equal human being, not tickling him excessively or being late with food-time, he treated me like I wanted to be treated, and that's just about the most human quality I can find and very reliable.

His story is pretty basic. We found a post on craigslist of an owner(couple) who was going through some tough times and had free kittens she couldn't take care of. When we met these people we realized they were very poor and unkempt but altogether nice people. They didn't even have a carrier for the cat in their beat up old two door car rusted red with an ICP bumper sticker -.-. This short weird tattooed guy pulls out this little beautiful fluff ball with bright blue eyes at the time and hands him to us. I felt at that moment that he was in better hands and we did the right thing. Not quite the climatic story, but a story nonetheless. Come to think of it, I'd really like to see Larry's parents now.

Omg this is my cat to a tee. Can't let me make the bed without laying in it or trying to play with my hands/feet while I do it.
