#Grinder - Your #1 Rental for Timber Floor Grinding Machines. Mention this sign and get 10% off your next rental.

So you would compare

"Rental for Floor Grinding Machines"

with

"Location de ponceuses à parquet"

and

"Fußbodenschleifmaschinenverleih"

This is quite funny....

French language is forward: The rental comes first, then the object of the rental which is the grinding machine, then the object of the grinding machine, which is the floor.

German language is backward: First comes the floor, which is the second object, then comes the grinding machine which is the first object, and the main thing comes in the very end. This is what confuses foreigners, unless they have been educated in Latin language and are used to structures like the "Accusativus cum Infinitivo" or "Ablativus Absolutus".

English is just a mixture of backward and forward. The "floor grinding machine" follows the German approach, the "Rental for " follows the French approach. In fact in German you could also use the English mix and write "Verleih für Fußbodenschleifmaschinen". However, using a single word is more impressive!

Not only more impressive, but more effective in terms of marketing as well!!

Otherwise, probably not much of a chance that his shop sign would spread over the internet...

BTW, thanks for the quick German lesson!! Learning Deutsch is one of my medium-term goals.

I was wondering if this was a real life apartment building. It looks photoshopped from a distance, but upon closer examination it has a great deal of individual, non-repeating detail.
