I ran across something a few days ago that I find very intriguing called The Venus Project. Thought I'd provide the link if anyone is interested.

Home is the website

Also, Recommended Documentaries includes videos. The first 2 in that list are excellent, Paradise or Oblivion and Future by design...

There are times when it seems like conspiracy theory is creeping in. Don't let that stop you. Get past it and you wwill find that it really isn't conspiracy theory. At least that's the way I see it.

I am doing a lot of reading lately which is an incredible feat for me. I hate to read and always did very poorly on reading and reading comprehension tests. Anyway, I ran across this video as a result of some reading I was doing, RSA Animate - Drive: The surprising truth about what motivates us - YouTube. The concepts discussed can also be applied to raising children it seems. Only
Ten minutes packed full.

Awesome and I would encourage you to consider starting a journal of your experience. Might be a demand for a book in your future.
My bread and butter business is a residential/commercial inspection business (which fits very well with my engineering backround), and I have always had an interest in off the grid/self sufficient homes. An acquaintance is involved in engineering a suburban subdivision that is totally self sufficient, and I offered to work with him part time for free, just for the experience.

Unfortunately, my province is still in the dark ages and has not grasped the concept of solar grid tie systems, therefore do not allow net metering. With you as the project manager for this build, you should save enough to install a system that would would give you a small but steady cash flow if your area allows it. Just a thought ....

Good luck and to quote Steve Smith of the Red Green Show: "If women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy."

As I mentioned in a previous post, I will start a journal soon but asked for recommendations of where to keep it. My initial thoughts are simply facebook. However, I know the limitations there. So, I'm thinking of a blog as well. So, any ideas are welcome.

I do not intend to use solar panels for electricity because of the expense and return on investment is a long time. Not very enticing when you consider the type of house I am building. The savings will be minimal. However, I'm not ruling it out. Could still use them but they are way down on the list of things to do.

Thanks for your encouragment.

Mike

Regardless of trading do what truly makes you happy. Trading will always be around if you choose to pick it back up as long as there is money.
