I discontinued my Facebook a little over two years ago, one of the better decisions I've made.

"Facebook will make you hate your friends and family; Twitter will make you love complete strangers."

Side note: I think twitter is a fantastic information, and communication tool.

This post is pretty much spot on. Much better signal/noise ratio on Twitter for me.

Being a total trading newbie, I am also a fan of the $STUDY channel on Stocktwits. Although it's pretty clogged with poorly disguised vendor messages.

LinkedIn anybody? I found that LinkedIn had instituted a forum functionality, and that I was getting time-sucked into that, too. I've never found LinkedIn to be of much use in bringing in business for me; rather it's just been a continual annoyance with all these people requesting I add them to my network, and then nothing coming of it.

And then LinkedIn added their recommendation system, where people rate you as a professional. And I found people I barely know, and who I have never worked with, rating my professional skills. Huh? Does that mean I am supposed to compromise my integrity (what precious little I have) to reciprocate by giving a bogus recommendation in return? Sorry, I just find that to be morally offensive. I don't want to join in with you in gaming this bogus system.

I finally got up the nerve to quit LinkedIn, and afterward I felt such a relief. Ahhhhhhhhhh.

Very seldom go to FB any more. Maybe a couple of times a week. My wife keeps up with it every day.

I still haven't signed up with Twitter though.

I am signed up to FB but use it very rarely. It winds me up to be honest, it seems most people are just on there to draw attention to themselves.

Not against social media though - I like to use Twitter to keep up to date with things that interest me, and I think LinkedIn is a very good resource too from a career perspective.

OK, I admit it.

I did another touch'n'go landing with Facebook over the holidays. Month of December. I let people wish me a happy birthday, posted some pictures of the Xmas dinner feast I cooked, and finally, friended the cute barista that I like from my local Starbucks (before she quit).

Now I am off Facebook for the rest of the year.

I am amazed again at how quickly I get sucked into spending a couple of hours a day on Facebook. I always feel regret, as though I am wasting time.

I can really only focus on one online community at a time, so for 2014 I am going to focus here on futures.io (formerly BMT). Almost every time I access this site I learn something of value.

This is exactly the way I like to "trade" Facebook. Get in there, get the money, and get out of there.

FB or Twitter grown up to be an infrastructure. How many days could you miss Google?

So quitting is not really an option, imho. Teenees use it like you did your baseball or Nintendo. Maybe, it was easier to keep balance between hobby and your normal life while FB can fill all your day.

On the other side if you've ever tried to use FB for marketing.. it is a magic tool yet requires lots of work to reach your goals but still you wanna use it instead of printing.
