I don't really think that liking fast cars or even owning one hurts those around me. I don't agree with or embrace the globalization thought or the current eco religion that is so popular these days so we are coming from different world views. My Lord and my Bible says don't worry about tomorrow. And I trust Him when He says He is my provider so I don't have a lack mentality when it comes to these things or anything. The world view (religion) religion you speak of in in contridiction with mine. So I respectfully disagree.

Cars contribute to only a small portion of pollution and you know that. Most damage to biosphere comes from animal farms and power plants. So ease up on these bratwursten und wienerschnitzels and lit up the candle :-)

I did not want to post too much off-topic. I must admit that I am also fascinated by fast and elegant cars.
But it was more of a legitimate passion in the 20th century, when fast cars stood for technological progress while today they stand for recklessness and unnecessary pollution.
I would prefer this one ....

@Fat Tails, the problem is Methane is many times more dangerous to creating greenhouse effects than CO2, hence Methane produced by cows and pigs (and people for sure too, more by vegans!) is generating bigger problem than percentage suggests.
On a sports cars matter. You live in Germany so you must be perfectly aware that a modern german sports car has a smaller fuel consumption in a regular cycle than an average american family wagon. My CLK350 is far from new (2006) but does around 10L/100km at 160 km/h. My friends fresher 330d does than with just 8 l of diesel per 100. New M6 or R8 diesel consume even less but provide ridiculous performance. So it's not sportscars, but ignorance that ruins this planet. Technology is overcoming issues very quickly, but lobbyists, politicians and cartels try to keep status quo.

I used to have a very fast motorcycle. The thing is, once you get it up above about 120 mph, the wind drag and on your helmet becomes pretty unpleasant. You feel like the helmet is going to be ripped off your head. Great thrill, though, lot more bang for the buck than a car.

That being said, naked bikes like Harleys are more of a chick magnet than faired bikes, and having chicks come up to me asking for a ride is a lot more of a thrill for me...
Depends on a bike. Certainly the case with a naked bike. But a sport turer is very comfortable at high speed. I had Kawasaki zx9 back in a day, eent to the max on it not once, about 170mph and lying tucked behind the screen was quite comfortable and bike was very stable. Not so much stability on pure sport bike like my last yamaha r1. Over 150mph is uncomfortable and wind buffeting is high. But on a naked one 120-140 is about it, more is creating huge drag..
Btw in Europe is totally opposite. Faired sport is fashionable and chicks go pillion ride. Choppers are for old guys with beards and fat wives. :-) thus said I really like suzuki intruder 1800r2, in US you call it Boulevard.

I heard the story one time, about the Intruder, very typical of Japanese products, that the engine was very perfectly engineered to run smoothly. Consequently it did not have the occasional misfire that's typical of Harleys, and so the engineers programmed that a "defect" into the chip in the ignition, so that it would sound like a Harley.
Probably a bogus story, but would not surprise me.
I've always had the fascination to own a station wagon with 1000 hp and a modest exterior so I can show up at stoplights to people with nice cars and rev my engine. They'd be like wtf? And I'd love to see the reaction on their faces when I leave em in the smoke.

The GTR just looks like an 80's car, it's fugly. Performance: yes, visuals: no.
The new F-type is a thing of beauty on the other hand and quite impressive from near every point of view. I would have not considered a Jag prior to this.
I've been enthralled with Jags every since I washed an E-Type when I was a kid at one of those street corner fund raiser car washes.....but bought my first one in 2005...an S-Type....and I loved it and still think its one of the prettiest cars around.....but the F-Type is beyond beautiful....its sublime....IMHO....

True about the GTR but based on some reviews, it is very hard to spin out in a GTR. The electronics on the car are very forgiving of human error. The after market possibilities make it a bit more appealing to me.
I found that quite fun and interesting, and really it will become its own sport -- driverless racing where it's all about the software tuning instead of the driver experience

Tax The Rich are a bunch of guys in the UK (believed to be the sons of Foxton's founder Jon Hunt) who rag
the most exquisite machinery (and by exquisite I mean F40, F50, XJ220, EB110) through fields and dirt tracks. It's refreshing to see such stellar and rare cars be hooned to within an inch of their life and used properly, rather just cruising the Kings Road or on show at a concours event.
Nice .... I don't have actual pics of my pontiac lineup, but here is the next best with same colors, rims and stance. Can't beleive I found these.
I had a 68 Firebird 350
70 1/2 Formula 400 (before they lowered the compression)
and traded it in on a 77 Trans Am Blackbird "Bandit"
Loved them all, but the Blackbird was weak. The formula 400 had a hi speed rear and was stupid fast on the hiway. The 68 I would love to have back ..... that thing was awesome.

I really hope that this car is successful at Le Mans next year, so that other manufacturers get pushed towards making "homologation specials" type cars as well. We have seen too many examples of the standard R8/458/MP4-12C/etc. body shape by now.

I have had the 57 Chevy Bel Air- the 65 stang convertable and the early 70's Chevelle SS's.
My recollection of these cars is not as romantic as others it seems. I remember the skinny steering wheels the
seat backs that stopped at the neckline to insure your head would end up in the back seat when rear ended.
The lousy reliability and the terrible handling. The 70's and 80's American vehicles converted me to Asian brands
with a very brief adventure into the German over engineered marvels of today.
Anyway- On to Fast..
Today This is the fastest boat I have ever owned. This was a barn find used only a year and sat for 25 -
Completely rebuilt supervised by a friend who is an ex offshore water ski racer. ( These guys regularly water ski
at speeds of over 100 mph). We rebuilt this boat to Superboat specs. She loves light chop and is stable to 65 mph.
This was my previous vessel. Formula 242LS Not as fast but a nice comfortable offshore ride.

The Regera ... Koenisegg is one of the few genius out of the box thinkers of this generation .. and although his hydraulic "gear box" is not a brand new concept, it is new on a supercar (that I've seen anyways)

My old 5 Series is in the shop, should be getting it back in a couple days. Man, am I itching to drive it again. Feels like it's been forever. But when the weather is nice, all the cops are out, so I'll probably just have to hit up the tightest road around here and go close to the speed limit.
That's a real shame seeing it in that state after just such a short period of time. But seeing it was still so new (and an M!) I guess it was repaired, right?
It was a shame. Really sucked and I loved that car!
They didn't fix it .. BMW diagnostics determined major engine damage due to all the oil leaking out and would not repair it. A new engine was $40k+ (I think $46?? Can't remember exact number now for it but I have the quote somewhere still, plus labour, plus 6-8 month wait for new engine) plus $30k+ in body/repair work put it well into the 75% range. Insurance wrote me a check for full replacement value (around $125k with taxes, etc).
I still haven't replaced it with anything .. But possibly Cayenne coming soon
@Big Mike she's a McDonnell Douglas MD-11...stupidly overpowered GE CF-6 engines (like I had on my sweetheart 747)...nexgen glass cockpit and though she is a little older now, very advanced systems for her time. Great airplane, a bit of a tarnished safety record but I don't care I love flying it!
I recently flew a trip in it @43,000 feet just cause I could lol! Think 1968 Z28 camaro.

About 15hrs. I gotta wrap up my instructor time and then solo. I started it and stopped mid way because I couldn't handle everything at once. Now I have cleared my plate and made it a priority to complete.
Was riding this little bad boy today going at least 45 mph down the street and drifting like crazy in the grass. So much power and such little weight it's almost scary.
