Numbers published today in CIHI’s report Physicians in Canada, 2014 show that the number of doctors has been steadily increasing over the last decade, reaching almost 80,000 in 2014. In addition, gross payments to physicians continued to rise, with physicians earning an average of $336,000 in 2013–2014, an increase of 2.4% from the previous year. The annual average payment per physician ranged from $263,000 in Nova Scotia to $368,000 in Ontario.
The national trend masks some regional differences. For example, the number of doctors in Alberta and Saskatchewan has increased by 20% in the last 5 years, the highest among the provinces. During the same period, British Columbia, Quebec and Prince Edward Island had the lowest increases of between 10% and 11%.
In 2014, the overall physician-to-population ratio reached 224 physicians per 100,000 population. Nova Scotia, Newfoundland and Labrador and Quebec recorded the highest per-population rates of 260, 248 and 239 physicians, respectively.

Filed Under:The Province > Health > Local Health

Eric Hoskins, the Ontario health minister, dropped this eye-opener at a press conference a week or so ago: of the more than 500 doctors in that province who bill the provincial health insurance program more than $1 million, there’s one ophthalmologist who pulls in $6.6 million.
Ontario doctors have been without a contract for two years so Hoskins drew their ire for “recklessly” singling out the richest doctors and for also saying this:
The provocative information about the $6.6 million eye surgeon was truly a revelation for most of us who had no clue there are Canadian doctors working in a socialized health care system who make as much as their American counterparts. Perhaps we shouldn’t be surprised about this, however, since fees paid to doctors comprise a whopping nine per cent of the entire provincial budget in BC (10 per cent in Ontario).
The escalating tension between Ontario doctors and the provincial Liberal government has been building for months. The Ontario government is seeking to do what BC started years ago – make family medicine more attractive (lucrative) through a recalibration of fees as Globe and Mail columnist Andre Picard wrote. That means reducing fees for some and raising them for others.
MEDICINE MATTERS: Unlike Ontario, no $6 million doctors in BC, but 180 who earn over $1 million

My goodness, this thread is so depressing...

I live in Asia and i eat allot of salt, which is iodized. Does this help? Also, I'm drinking heavily calcified water....must be good as well?

Thanks for an interesting yet shocking thread mate. So sorry about your brother...

XS

Thanks XS (re brother) - much appreciated.
I still miss him.

(Sorry about the late reply I stopped reading the thread for a while)

Thanks for your question.

I stopped reading the thread .. I was quite angry and sad about my brother's death.

Iodized salt does not help. (It is thought to acidify the body == acid body opens the pathway to cancer)

You should use sea salt (after buying it sterilize it in the oven by heating it above 250 degrees F for 15 min or so.

Regular salt (sodium chloride) needs to be balance with Potassium (available in foods like bananas and in a pill from the vitamin store) in a 1:1 ratio. The ratio allows the body to shed any excess sodium chloride from the body. (IF you eat manufactured foods you are probably getting too much regular salt.)

powdered kelp is one food source of iodine.

(The Lugol drops is a special recipe of Iodine.)

Thanks, i think i was concerned about radiation at the time from Fukushima.

Great thread though. I've got a 2 year old now, so i'm constantly checking the ingredients here in Australia for food additives. Generally his diet is very good, he loves fresh fruit and vegies. He doesn't eat allot of meat and loves fish.

I was quite surprised how much MSG is in snack food here in Australia. As well as other flavor enhancers. There is allot of organic snack foods available for kids now too.

Good to hear you fed him organic.

Really if one can afford it one should only eat fresh raw food (organic) washed of course.
With meats/fish/eggs you must of course be aware of parasites and so cooking is safer.

In the USA company are allowed to use 150 chemicals that they can label natural flavors and colorings - so really if you do buy any manufactured food - which I'm not recommending - then any added flavorings or color would be a good reason to put it back on the store shelf. :-)

Imagine a creamy dreamy soft ice cream that’s totally devoid of anything bad, and chock-full of everything good. You’re welcome.

Purpose
Bananas are a premium source of potassium, and cacao nibs are one of nature’s best (and most delicious!) antioxidant-rich whole foods. Add in some mineral rich and hormone balancing maca, and a few savoury spices, and you’ve got one of the most nutritious ice creams you will ever eat!

Equipment Required
Food processor

Ingredients
2 cups frozen banana chunks (frozen for at least 12 hours, using very ripe bananas)
¼ cup (or less) almond milk – just enough so that your mixture will blend
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Optional: 1 tablespoon maca powder
Dash ground nutmeg
Add last: 2 teaspoons raw cacao nibs

Directions
In a food processor with an S-blade, place all of the ingredients, except for the nutmeg and cacao nibs.
Blend until smooth and creamiliscious (it’s a word), using just enough of the almond milk so that your mixture blends up well.
Serve immediately, dusted with nutmeg and topped with the cacao nibs.

Be careful of large fish - e.g. tuna
Due to many years of China's dirty coal plants the mercury levels in the Pacific are so high that fish at the top of the food chain accumulate a lot of mercury in them.

I don't eat tuna due to dolphin friendly issues - but the mercury is also too high to be acceptable.

I saw a new study as well that says food is completely toxic to your body and we should completely remove it from our diet...(end sarcastic intro)

Unfortunately Zondor i want to believe what is in the link however given all the mis-information about these days, i honestly don't to what or whom to believe. It seems like one study says butter is unhealthy, then another study says margarine is unhealthy. My MD told me to eat more fish!!! FFS WTF is he on!

I understand that you are either Vegan or vegetarian. I respect that you care about your health and i assume that you have done the research to support your beliefs.

So how do you determine what and whom to believe?

Watch this Google talk, or don't. I hope it makes an impression on you. If it saves even one life....

Most people will not, under any circumstances, reconsider their food choices. That's good for the financial health of the medical/drug racket.

What I do, or eat, has nothing to do with the validity of the information in the video, which is solely based on peer reviewed scientific studies in medical journals (not food industry advertising or supplement company advertising or drug company advertising). Which means nothing, and carries no weight with most people, including doctors, who don't really understand what "science" is.
