cheers from Bamberg. Its after 5 so its Reckendorfer time...the beer comes from Reckendorf, a small town in the county of Bamberg. Just one of the 200 or so breweries in Upper Franconia (a region of Bavaria)..thats ~5 persons per Brewery !
I've lived in Bamberg Germany for the past 5 years and will move back to the USA at the end of this year. So before I leave, I decided to document the 9 breweries of Bamberg. If you ever wanted to take a explore Germany and if you like beer then this is the city to visit. Also, there is the region around Bamberg that has 200 breweries so go ahead a book a week or two!
So today I had lunch at the Keesman Bräu. A cold pils is perfect with a boiled salted pigs knuckle, sauerkraut, and mashed peas!
For after lunch, another beer at Mahr's Brewery, which is directly across from Keesmann. Sitting outside enjoying a pils.

Brewery Spezial. a light smoked beer. back in the day, brewers used to dry the malt directly over a fire so the beer had a smokey flavor. In Bamberg there are two brewers who have smoked beers. Spezial brews the lighter variant. Brewery Schlenkerla makes the strong variant. Herzlich willkommen in der Brauerei Spezial Bamberg
Ok, now this is a one of a kind cultural event and beer: Scherdel's Schlappenbier from Hof, Germany. You will probably not find this outside of Hof. Brewed just for the annual Schlappentag, the oldest craft fest in Germany. Its a 6,5% malty beer.
