Planet Mongo is too far from Earth and, in any event, we are broke after having done some business with Goldman Sachs and the IMF during that fiasco with Mr. Gordon. The movie sugar coated his true mission - Economic Hit Man.
By the way, did you know that Dr. Zarkov is the guy who thought up that 999 plan? Not much of an economist, but those steam driven Rocket Chips he designed (they were built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works) were pretty good technology for the 1930's.
