Why would you go to downtown anyway? By the way I did for the fleamarket, and nobody shot me...

You go to Cancun for the beach and for the bars and resorts, not for the city. But as I mentioned earlier in this thread, 2 hours South is were the real fun is.

Personally I wouldn't stay in one spot for a whole month, I would rather have 2 x 2 weeks or maybe 3 x 10 days in different spots. Spice it up baby!!!

Sure, no problem in Cancun when you go there for vacation. But the title of the thread is " Best Caribbean or Central America location to retire?" and I think when somebody wants to live there, they want to move around too.

Linked photos of "the most epic pools in the world." Many of them in Central America.

the pop-up "next" & "prev" buttons are on the right and left side on the photos.

My mistake, I confused this thread with the vacation one. But anyway, the Yucatan peninsula is one of the safest places in Mexico for 2 reasons:

1. Its major business is tourism and high crime rates are bad for tourism.

2. There are very few roads on the peninsula and the police can (and do) easily block them when searching for illegal trafficking.

When I was there we routinely ran into roadblocks but seeing us being white tourists they just waved us through...

Peter Schiff's thoughts on real estate purchasing outside of the U.S. like Latin America.
He also mentions foreign equities that are based on foreign rental properties with rent
paid as dividends.

I just returned from a two week trip to Ecuador. I visited Quito, Esmeraldas, Manta, Salinas, Playas, Guayaquil and many, many surrounding areas.

In coming days I'll post some of the pics and videos. I purchased some land and plan to start making the move to retire there in the coming months.
