We've had national and state and local parks in this nation long before the spend crazy years we've seen recently.
Progressives and liberals act like we were living in the stone ages even a decade ago. If you tried to return to even 2008 level spending...Democrats everywhere would decry words like "draconian" to describe the cuts.....
We spend over twice as much on K-12 education (indexed for inflation) now as we did in 1970.
Last I checked, Shakespeare and Basic geography and algebra haven't changed much in that time.
But if you tell people you're in favor of cutting education spending....people call you heartless and cruel.
And yet, per capita, the children who graduated in 1970 were not only smarter (in comparison to the rest of the world) but seemed to have done alright...I mean they only gave us the largest economic expansion in the history of the world.
Do we need basic services and functions? Sure....could we "survive" without 50% of the government's spending RIGHT now. Absolutely. People would need to fundamentally change their habits and behavior.
a great majority of the people who supposedly cannot afford healthcare are the same people that drive a car (instead of biking, walking or riding public transportation), own color television sets, pay for extravagences like cable television, cell phone service, itunes, cigarettes, etc, etc, etc.
It's not a matter of whether or not they can afford it....it's a matter of whether or not they choose to prioritize their spending to make room for basics and necessities.
I can't tell you how many panhandlers I've seen on a road intersection corner with a cell phone.
Did you know that the Federal government will provide you with a tracfone and minutes each month if you can't afford one?
Our spending is insane and it's literally robbery for people that work hard for the money they earn.
Most taxpayers can justify programs like parks and public works, at least the taxpayer is getting SOME form of benefit from them....
But bailing out idiots who live in a flood zone, paying for welfare for people who shouldn't be having kids in the first damned place (if you have another child while you're already on welfare in my opinion, your welfare should be canceled).....showing up to the emergency room and expecting other people to pay for your mild heart attack (when you weigh 300 lbs and smoke a pack a day) it's all insanity.

The government actually does a good job on roads, and is actually one of it's responsibilities according to the constitution. If they could just stick to those things they do well, building roads being one of them, we would be in a better place imo.
I don't follow politics too closely because it makes me angry , but I see that even though Ron Paul is getting snubbed by the media , he has been getting some attention from the John Stewart report John Stewart Bashes the Media Over Ron Paul - YouTube
Bush was a terrible president and Obama is worse so hopefully we get something better , we are well over due, not sure if Ron Paul can get through the process though, his ideals are great but maybe not realistic unfortunately, but who knows maybe people are fed up enough to give him a shot, if not him like to see someone that can actually run a business and is willing to get their hands dirty and get to work...
Maybe someone with a lot of money and some brains will pop up from somewhere, tired of same old crap , it's getting worse by the day ....
