"Only 58% of residents know that the United States declared its independence in 1776. 26% are unsure, and 16% mentioned another date."

"one in four Americans doesn’t know from which country the United States declared its independence. While 76% correctly cite Great Britain, 19% are unsure, and 5% mention another country"

Who cares.
Looking back at my elementary education I was taught far too many meaningless dates that would have been much better spent on mathematics/science.
I love history but think it should be scrapped along with poetry, literature and gym class.

You can be thankful the men that pledged their lives, their fortunes and their sacred honor 200+ years ago knew their history. Otherwise you would be a serf today for some aristocratic noble toiling away in their fields so they could live in luxury whilst you scrounged for food in their trash heap.

This kind of ignorance always leads to slavery.

Its called socialist revisionist history. Its done on purpose. If the people don't know where they came from, they'll go anywhere they're told. We are supposed to be docile sheep. Just consume.....leave the heavy thinking to the intellectual elites....

Thank God even the commoners back then rejected the idea that only nobility were entitled to freedom and were heavily engaged in the discussion over the equality of man, the nature of freedom and the responsibility of each citizen to protect the God given rights of life, liberty and the rule of law.

This poll says 42% of people are dumb as rocks but I think the percentage is much higher
and one of the reasons that only 5% of the people have all the money.

The roots of the American Revolution were born from the failed English revolution of the 17th century England. Of course the western world in the middle to late 18th century being in an economic depression help spur the American Revolution. This time being futile for change, just ask the French guillotine.

America's biggest teacher and principal cheating scandal unfolds in Atlanta - Yahoo! News
<
It "confirms our worst fears," says Mayor Kasim Reed. "There is no doubt that systemic cheating occurred on a widespread basis in the school system." The news is “absolutely devastating," said Brenda Muhammad, chairwoman of the Atlanta school board. "It’s our children. You just don’t cheat children.”

Maybe this has something to do with it...
