Hi all,

Hope I'm not asking a question that has been asked before, but am wondering about some of the pros and cons of Ninjatrader v. Multichart.

Some of my Questions:

Is one better than the other?
Thanks in advance,

Madelynn

@Madelynn

I'm sure you will get a definitive, rational, unemotional, unbiased answer to your question.

Is one better than the other? If so, in what ways?

What about the fact that so many indicators/strategies at futures.io (formerly BMT) are focused on Ninjatrader.

What about date feed/execution of trades - I currently am with Mirus.

Any information or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

Madelynn

1) Which one is better, Ford or Chevrolet? Honda or Toyota? You must try them both to get your answer.
2) NT has a very rich C# programming environment, and a lot can be done with it. Hence, more indicators for NT.
3) I have not used MC but I would assume that both are equally sufficient--this will depend more on your broker and data feed, and internet connection, than the client, most likely.

No need to thank in advance -- the "thanks" button below this post will do just fine

@TMFT,

Well, one can always live in hope............

Actually, the renewal for my Ninjatrader license is approaching and I have seen where some traders at futures.io (formerly BMT) have switched to Multichart. Wanting some opinions to see if there may be a better mousetrap (tick trap) out there.

Thanks,

Madelynn

Please take the Volume Profile troubleshooting out of this thread, it does not belong here.

Please take the NT vs other platforms out of this thread, it does not belong here. Search the forum, there are other threads on this.

Hi guys, I'd be grateful for some information on the ninjatrader database from someone
I've never really thought too much about it but the reason I ask is because I look at market delta and watch these guys like FT71 loading profiles and charts going back 5 years seems to load up in a few seconds. So I'm wondering are other people having this problem and whether other packages have issues loading up a long history of data.

Cheers
DJ

This might not be the right answer to this NT loading data problem but is been going on my machine from day one 4 years now and now I thing I know what might be causing this, first off when NT is loading their isn’t any hour glass to indicate that is working on the background the only indicator is on the bottom of the control console and if you click on something ells wile is still loading then forget it you will get stuck on loading data for ever you have to reboot. I hope that someone ells can verify this because is been driving me creasy.

What I mean by clicking on something ells is clicking another task with in NT will is loading data

Hi Samiotis.

I like to think of Ninjatrader as a Sherpa's mule. The more bags you load on it, sooner or later its legs are going to buckle under the weight.

I continue to believe Ninjatrader is a fairly bug free piece of software with most issues caused by poorly coded indicators, the user or insufficient hardware to meet user needs, as opposed to the software itself.

Last week I was cleaning out a cupboard and found an old single core 3.6 ghz with 4gb of RAM and Windows XP. I tried out Ninjatrader for a full week on it with no issues. It's only when I started to load it up with more bags did it start to buckle under the weight and eventually crash and burn.

My specific issues were caused by a rogue piece of coding junk I had inflicted on Ninjatrader. Once I removed this it ran fine. I still have an issue with the database getting locked but believe I have isolated that to multi-time frame indicators causing the conflict.

With your issue as a start I suggest you do what Fat Tails suggested and one by one remove the indicators and reboot. Also what type of hardware and software are you running? Once I updated to Windows 7 64 bit and 8GB of RAM my problems almost vanished overnight.

Cheers
DJ

Cheers to you too DJ and Thanks but if one has to buy new machine every year the software “any software” is upgraded then there is something wrong with the software? But that is not the case the case is ether there is a wrong setting on the software or must be set in a certain way on my machine, but I had Brett from NT look in to the machine and he found nothing other than he say “I think we have a performance problem” no idea what he meant by that and dint ask.
Now this is what it bugs the heck out of me; I am running three platforms every day on a WinXp pro duo core2 2Ghz 2gd RAM with 1 Quote Tracker 1 Thinkorswim or two sometimes and none of them ever lost a beat software to rely your money on and NT7 I cannot relied on for trading because when volume picks up NT7 chocks and until someone tells me why is that to me NT7 is not to be trusted for trading. I been running software for ten years and never ever had a problem like this.

No I don’t have any third party indicators I am using what NT provide I have used third party ind with some corrections but that is not where the problem lye. Even with one workspace and one chart the two problems I indicated are still their (loading data and lugging data).

I have a video if one is interested or show me how to upload it............

NinjaTrader 7 is running stable without any resources problems on my machines. You have a specific problem, which can be related to anything from your internet connection, your data feed, the .Net version you have installed, the API settings for the datafeed, the antivirus software on your PC, indicators, etc..

You need to find out, where your problem lies. Not even sure that it is directly related to NinjaTrader.

What is the API settings for the datafeed I don't know can you explain?

Wireless Internet for all three platforms
.Net is up to date
anti virus software? NT lugging data is only at high volume
Only NT Indicators
