The Battle of the Bots use a Kinetick datafeed, on one of my own VPS: it has been running for many months, 24/7, and I never had a single disconnection of the real time data feed (3 disconnections of the historical data servers, but only during week-ends, and 3 disconnections in months).
I will repeat with a larger font: 100% uptime of Kinetick for months, 24/7.
So check your "reliable" providers and "redundant" lines and procedures first, if Kinetick was the problem, I should have seen it with the 1Gb/s links of my servers too.
Right, this post is highly suspect. First post…Just joined…Instead of creating a brand new thread, the poster conveniently revives this thread. Thanks to all of those who have come to our defense with facts.
I use Ninja Trader with Zenfire and like it since it meets my needs.
However, unlike @Fat Tails ( Everything works better in Germany...... it just ain't right I tell ya...) , I have had issues with losing connections . I have DSL and Cable and a dual broadband router with rollover capabilities and everything on huge battery backups. I haven't lost internet connection in a year, but I do lose Zenfire connection.
I have never been able to determine where the problem is. I checked everything on my end and could not find anything. I bought a new computer and it had the same problem. I talked to the support at the broker, they suggested the usual, no Virus checker, no firewall, which had no effect.
It doesn't happen every day or even every week, but it does happen . So I plan appropriately.
I'm just a simple man trading a simple plan.

The new 64-Bit Version means there is more memory accessible for indicators which
makes it more stable. Is my assumption true?
I would love to see a Linux native client of NinjaTrader. Windows is just terrible with memory and
different architectures. When the first 64 bit CPUs came out linux supported it from day one. Every package
is available for i686 or x86_64 not so with Slowdowse.
In my opinion, NT in X64 is useful for large backtests, but not for usual operation. It can now use more than 3G, which was the x86 limit.
The theory would say it's possible to port all C# programs with Linux/Mono (but maybe some the license potential problems ?), but the % or Linux customers in NT user base might be very small, so I don't think we'll see this one day.
The first incident was a coding question. The NT guy basically rewrote the entire indicator top to bottom, fixed what did not work well for me and added in everything I could have imagined. When he was done he thanked me....go figure.
The second was a compatibility issue between my OS, some service pack issue and connecting with my broker. The founder/CEO was personally involved, made numerous telephone calls to me and my broker, followed up every step with e-mail and most important to me never made any excuses.
Smart people can draw their own conclusions as to why the experience of one or a few are dramatically different from the vociferous detractors.
I my opinion, this is a stable product. It is also a development system, which means NT has exposed the inner workings for knowledgeable programmers to enhance the features and functionality of the system. This is very brave, most companies will put you on a box and say you can play here only. NT has not done that!
With this powerful feature comes the possibility of external software interfering with what NT7 is trying to do to maintain a stable product. I know I have brought NT7 to its knees from time to time, needed to shut down and try again. This was due to programming error.
I have started working on a very complex project that uses many features of NT in combination with C# libraries. In this process, I may have found one NT function that may not have been thought to be abused in the way I have applied it. It has caused bugs in my software but I really had to dig deep to find this issue. I would say not many people have got near this bug in the past, but now NT is aware of the abuse the feature can take and may update it in NT7 or use this information to handle the case in the next platform.
NinjaTrader 7 has given me the ability to connect my software directly with the market in an open environment. I feel the product does exactly what I need and more. I would have no problem recommending this product to others. I would recommend people having problems delete all 3rd party DLLs, Strategies, and Indicators as the problem is likely in that area. Other common postings indicate Broker connections are sometimes not the best, but the user shoots the messenger (NT7) and not their broker and/or ISP for their lost connection. I use Zen-Fire and have NEVER seen a connection fail during the day.

I wouldn't underestimate the linux userbase. With Valve and Electronic Arts there are two multibilion dollar companys
reaching out to linux and I think there are more potential traders than gamers currently using linux. They wouldn't do it if there was no money to be made. Now with Windows 8 looking like it's going to flop I have noticed an increase in Ubuntu and Linux related news articles.
