Felix trader, the bandwith test results are ok, however you do need to run the same tests at peak time. Sunday evening tests might not reflect how much bandwidth is available when all businesses are running etc...
I remember a few years back I was on holidays in Europe and had some work to finish the first few days. I was able to RDP via vpn with no issues until NA /North America/ was waking up. At that point my connection went down the toilette, response became so slow was pretty much useless.
I am not saying the situation is the same today and I am sure a few more fibre was laid since however that would be your "real" test. Also there are at least one other member from Brazil on BM forum and you might want to chat with him/her regards to your experience.

Also at one point in the future you may want to consider to upgrade to Win 7. XP was not bad a few years back however Win 7 has a lot to offer over XP, such as memory management, disk management, process management etc... even on your current machine.
If your budget allows to get a new computer than go for 64 bit quad core with 64 bit Win 7 as crosscreek has suggested.
These upgrade steps shall happen however after you figured out what is your issue first which might involve re-installing the OS as well. Not sure if you have a brand name computer or not, regardless HP and Dell for quite some time did not distribute CDs but did create a recovery partition on the hard-drive.
Anywho you shall follow the steps at very first what Fat Tails has outlined + bandwidth test at NA peak time and let us know the results.
Truth is, I never ran NT with an XP machine, at least not for long. In those days, I was only using QCharts, then esignal. All I know is that I have never had a crash in over a year of continuous heavy duty use (on full time with gom recorder, only one reboot a week, running IB, TOS and outlook at the same time) of NT with my current box, a top of the line HP quad with W7. Whether or not it is a coincidence, I think the relative cost of switching boxes would seem to be a time saver and in the long run, a money saver as well. In all fairness, I have to add that I have FIOS, so no connectivity issues.
I'll do the test tomorrow on pick time and will post it again so you guys can evaluate that...
About the machines, I have 3 computers : 1notebook DELL core2duo with 3G memory, 2years old. 1 notebook HP core2duo 3G memory, 3 years old. But both of them have widows Vista, came from fabric. The third is a generic desktop, with a matherboard Intel .DG43NB and with a Intel Core2duo E7500(LGA775), 3G memory, thats the maximum XP supports.
Now I've mounted with XP cause I had a lot of issues with TS, so they sugested to use, 2 years a go, XP. And actually it imporved, this desktop is better then the others with VISTA.
Do you guys thing, that on this motherboard Intel could the processor be changed to make a better machine, like the on you sugested and install on it a windous 7 with more memory?
I agree, I've never heard anyone say Kinetick data was incorrect/bad/wrong etc. It is DTN data, which is arguably the best you can get for a retail trader.
