I've never traded single stock futures before, I just became aware of them, and wanted to see what they are about, and if they are worth looking at. The issue is not about what contract I want to look at, it is about NT's inability to use a legitimate market instrument, which I would assume other software vendors can use.

If an instrument has never gained enough popularity to be tradable, as FatTail's post shows, then NT is probably wise not to expend resources supporting it.

So, basically Ninjatrader makes the decision, what instrument I can trade! Can you trade any single stock futures at all with NT, or do they just not support that instrument type?

The "strange" thing is that the NT database structure seems to already have everything needed to trade options and SSF (but no Warrants or CFD) since at least the 6.5 version, and the IB API also seems fully implemented...

In my opinion single stock futures are illiquid and not worth trading. So there is no point to waste our time and set up NinjaTrader for something that cannot be traded.

If you have a look at the statistics of single stock futures, it is just a joke.

I think they failed to generate any interest because they were a solution looking for a problem. They don't seem to serve any risk-shifting purpose that isn't already served by options.

It's not suitable for day trading due to lack of volume. But if someone want to swing trade on high time frame, the advantage is the leverage without paying margin interests.

We have deviated a bit from the original idea of the thread, which is about NinjaTrader.

I think it is perfectly acceptable, if NinjaTrader does not offer any options, which are only of a theoretical interest, but which are useless from a practical point of view.

I have recently come across another one, which was loading historical data from Interactive Brokers in a 1 second resolution. I was able to do this with MultiCharts, but the backfill for one instrument took 45 mins for a lookback period of 2 weeks due to data throttling by Interactive Brokers.

That is another example of a useless request, which I actually had first supported on the NinjaTrader forum. However, after my experience with MultiCharts / Interactive Brokers, I quickly changed my mind about the usefulness of this idea.

FT, Sierra Chart solved IB downloading problem according to this thread:

Think that this refers to downloading intraday data with a 1-minute resolution, not a 1-second resolution. IB will throttle anyhow.

Otherwise, with NinjaTrader you can typically download 1-2 years of intraday data from IB, depending on the instrument.

...... Yes, I have switched. ...... That's it, it's over, goodbye.

Feel better now...

Why didn't you post this as your first post instead of venting your spleen?

IMHO... NinjaTrader is not perfect... but then again... I have never found a software program that was...

Until I find a platform that does more for me than NinjaTrader does .... at a reasonable cost ... I will be using NinjaTrader, YMMV

I have tried back testing with several different platforms.. None of them ever produced realistic results...or happy customers for that matter ...

I would vote to do away with back testing altogether.... but that is a feature many traders insist on ... so NinjaTrader caves to their customers ... what a concept...
