I've had problems with NT as well. But, I have to say, I haven't had the crashing problems that everyone is experiencing. Perhaps it is one of those apps that is extremely picky about the type of hardware you are running it on.

My issues with NT are mostly things I can ignore or work around. I do like how easy it is to get a strategy up and running. Although, I must admit, I haven't put much time into the competition. For those of you that have given up on NT, what are you using? Since I really only do algorithmic trading, I'd like to hear what software I should be thinking about switching to (C# - like language is key for me).

I have NT7beta22 loaded an running on 3 computers, only problem was a bad workspace. Deleted it, cloned another and changed the instrument. Ran all day Friday without incident. I am very happy. Only one of the custom indicators had a problem and I loaded the newest version of TrendLine Spoken Alert and all custom indicators compiled.

Of course I had uninstalled the previous version. I am a NT installation expert - not by vocation but by forced experience. The problem is that NT 6.5. will not load data if I have a workspace with different instruments.

@Fat Tails, you may need to repair your database and/or delete all your workspaces manually, and re-create them. This was an almost daily or every other day occurrence for me at the end with 6.5.

Also, don't forget to spin around 3 times and touch your right hand to your left foot while praying to the Ninja god.

Not related to database. Not related to workspaces. It is related to the IB API. With my default workspace, I only can connect to IB, if all charts use the same instrument. After connection I may change the instruments one by one. Maybe this related to my indicators calling daily data from intraday charts. This locks NT up, as the request for daily data creates endless loops, as shown by full CPU load. But again this is history. I do not use NT 6.5 any more.

Did not help either. There is no Ninja God, only Ninja demons, and they are regularly asking for a sacrifice.

What does it mean to right your assembler?

dnof View Post
Thanks LukeGeniol - my thoughts exactly.

If your goal is managing a fund with complex arbitrage, hedging, and risk management then sure you need an complex infrastructure (way beyond NT, Multicharts etc).

If you goal is to be a HFT scalper, then you would n't use any of that stuff and instead would right your assembler based system for lowest latency.

I am consistently profitable using NT 7 on futures markets, using proven setups on 5 to 15 min timeframes with no indicators (except volume and pivot/key S/R). I have also built complex research and backtesting systems on this to support my views/setups heading into each day - no issues at all aside from the normal "inconveniences" that come with the platform (all platforms have their own set of inconvenience issues).

This though process reminds me so much of the " if I only had a better indicator or 3, I would always profitable.....". We all know (or should know) that it is a search to nowhere.

Think he speak about low level program language, assembler is the lowest, for fast Algos trading executions, this reffered to institutinal traders.

Could a small discretionary trader benefit from using computer hosting services like the services Mirus offers, or is only for automated trading?
Just wondering if there is a way to reduce latency. I suspect the answer will be tied to my internet provider speed, but maybe there is something better out there?
