NT Major Weakness

Hi all,

Comments from EU regarding a possible catastrophe killed markets at 2011-03-15 11:01....ES down sharply, ZN Popped up massively etc.... Ninja Trader & Zenfire completely dropped the ball! I am livid at this point. The platform froze and there was literally no way to get the data during 2011-03-16 from 11:01AM (ET) to 11:38 AM (ET), as a matter of fact there is still a gaping 37 minute hole in my charts....where is the new low, I will never know. This software is a joke, I recently posted another thread about switching to TT X_Trader, I wish I had actually switched earlier instead of just talking about it! I hope that all of you out there who are planning on scalping the market pay close attention to NT's shortcoming as it can cost you money. It seems like the only reliable platforms are CQG, X_Trader, and CTS T4. I have been told many times and warned about this but I didn't listen....it is worth the additional fees.

I just wanted to put this out there. Ninja + Zen is dangerous for traders who game during fast markets and scalp markets. It is unreliable and will cost you money.

I am curious if others have had the same experience as me today or in the past with ninja and zen?

I would also like to know what your experiences are with alternative platforms during fast markets, are the big 3 mentioned above more reliable in your experiences?

i have nt7 and zenfire. i don't have that gap. so i think it's a bit premature to blame nt or zenfire.

I am sorry to hear that you experienced an issue earlier this morning. To clarify -

- When you say froze, do you mean that the NinjaTrader application was unresponsive OR that data was not flowing?
- What version of NinjaTrader are you using?
- One of the Data Severs did go down around 11 AM eastern (non related to market activity, just coincidental) and there is a gap if you were to create a new chart at this moment. This gap will be filled this weekend.

MWinfrey: please post a screen clip I have trouble beliveing this as nearly everyone else has had this problem. If there is some reason why you are not getting this problem please tell us.

NT: By froze I mean there was a massive inflow of data during this event and the software became unresponsive, the rest of my computer was fine. I tried to reload data and it couldn't, hence the gap. It will be filled this WEEKEND? Are you kidding traders need that data immediately a minute is a problem you talking about days, you have got to be joking. Please tell me you are not serious. Very suspicious that the server happened to go down during a flow of massive orders. I am not suggesting manipulation, just insufficiency to handle fast markets with this platform. In terms of version I am running 7. WHERE IS THE REDUNDANCY, how can one server knock you out. I don't think the blame is premature given the other thread full of posters with the same problem. I am not impressed, and I imagine many traders will not be as well. Perhaps Ninja and Zen is not quite ready to compete with the big boys like TT, today's events illustrate the deficiency clearly.

NTs weakness is also its strength, and that's the ability to run any code you want in addition to updating the price chart's bars. If some of that additional code you're running has problems you'll experience such freezes, while others running different add-in code won't. My system coped with the data in the same time frame just fine, but I only use indicators which I've written myself with CPU efficiency in mind.

Hey sprdtrader -- if you decide to stick with NT, you may want to consider purchasing a datafeed from DTN or Kinetick for ~$50 a month. Then if a ZF server goes down, you won't have to worry about gaps in your chart.
